What is in a name – Content edition

    The Vault 1

If this is your first time to a Sasy Talk, then a bit about me. I have always worked in Second Life, behind the scenes for dozens of brands over the years, some publicly, some privately…it depended on the work and how involved it was. So when I see a thing, I often communicate said thing – this means that I have been IM’ing stores about this, but to most of them these days, I am some random person, saying some stuff, so I thought that it may make more sense in this format. Work aside, it also means that I often look at and use my inventory in a high octane way. It is big, not as big as it would be if I actually unpacked things…but big none the less. I also have multiple bodies, I am not a body changer on the fly type of person, I just happen to have a few. But I only recently – the last year or so, changed from my Slink bodies to eBody Reborn. I go back to Slink often, but when I am out shopping these days, I am buying items that include eBody Reborn in them, I also tend to make sure that what I am buying has at least one other body I own included, that way I am covered if I change.

Coming from nearly a decade of one body, to another is tough, I empathise with all in that, but what some tend to not understand, is not only do you potentially feel out of sorts with your new look, you end up very disconnected from your inventory. I have over 400 thousand items in my inventory (I have deleted as much over the years, on the beta grid I have over 650K) and in the past, regardless of the day, the mood, the weather, I knew what I wanted to wear, who made it, what colours I had, and very often where to find it in my inventory. Even if I had not ‘put it away’. Now, because of that disconnect, I use the inventory search function to find something to wear. I buy things, but I am not as invested in them as I used to be, probably because I have not taken them to the posestand for a post as soon as purchased, like often was the case in the past. This means that I type in search…Reborn + Dress or Reborn + Top/Pants and sometimes Reborn + Pants + olive etc. All my Bom underwear is easy, that is in my favourite wearables. But right now, as I am learning what I like, what I love, what I need, that is how I am doing it. That is the main reason for this post.

The other day I did a video, and in the video I mentioned ‘do not change peoples logos’ it was a whole thing in my head, but my words in the video were milder. What has also always been a thing that creators do, is they play around with wording. Slink Hourglass ending up HG was due to the length of it more than anything, and while it was upsetting, you could search Hourglass or HG, but the Slink component was gone. I see the same with other things, Belleza ended up just being Freya or Isis and so on, but you learn and it makes sense. But knowing your body history is very very important also. Even though alas the brand identity is gone, most people will refer to bodies by the body name.

Newer creators and even newer residents to Second Life, do not always know that there were things before them. So for instance if you were to now just say Belleza in a product, which Belleza would you be referring to? The three bodies prior or the newer GenX bodies? Such is also the case for eBody Reborn. eBody had bodies before Reborn, and they may have more bodies in the future, who knows, but lately I see items that are saying the fit they include is eBody, and they do not say Reborn at all, but it is a new release, so chances are they mean Reborn right? But what happens 5 months from now, when it is further along in the store, and someone sees it fits eBody, and they own Reborn, do they just walk past it believing it to be old? That is one of the hazards of Second Life content. Age is not communicated. You can still see items in stores or on marketplace that still contain Sculpties, and some of you may not even know what a sculptie is, if you joined Second Life since November 2011 that may never have been your world, but it can mean that even now, you could buy something that is useless to you. To think that we have now had Mesh longer in Second Life than we didn’t is amazing.

So when you are creating for a particular type of body, it is important to list that body in the name of the item, not only because it is the right thing to do for someone to know it fits, but if you don’t, if you create some random way of communicating – eb-r , eBodyR, Reb, eBody, (r) < I have seen all of those – and there are more I am sure, then not only could a customer just not even try the items on, and potentially just assume it won’t fit them, but if they do try it, realise it does fit, it ends up never appearing in search in inventory, so then never gets worn, and while you may think ‘so what, the money was paid’ it means that the customer is not wearing it, not loving it, and not seeking out your brand in future for more purchases, you end up lost to them…you also miss out on the opportunity of someone else seeing them in it and wanting it, and tralalaling to your store to also buy it.

Now you may be thinking, “well “Sasy you could also search the eBody search term’, but that brings me back to the first point…there existed a previous eBody body (two if memory serves), so if I do search that, and I do, do not worry, it brings up loads of things that then don’t fit this one, because they were made for the previous one/s. All of these examples can be swapped out for other bodies too, as I said this is not just an eBody Reborn, situation, it is across most of the bodies, and not only if they have had previous types. I once saw it done by just the first letter, but not consistently, it was done with some brands being the brands first initial and some the body names first initial, and when I unpacked I thought that the folder was full of standard sizing, because there was an S and an L and and a B (it was the B that made me realise what was happening) again us older residents have a whole history of ways things are done.

I understand character limits, if your own store name is long, then the name of the item is long, and then if you sell by colour that is long, which also adds in the word fatpack also long, it becomes difficult. The ability to put it all out there is tough, I also know that often it is how people name stuff on their pc, and it is how it is uploaded, and it does not get changed – much like attach to right hand. I also know that because items predominantly are no mod, this means the end user also cannot change it to be the name they want. So perhaps if nothing else is possible, please throw in a notecard that has a title with the proper wording if impossible to put on the item, so that at least the notecard can come up when searching, and cause the end user to perhaps investigate further. Just to clarify, nothing worn in todays post was not doing it right, in fact Ison goes so far as to put eBody and Reborn in there, just in case, Harry has you covered! He is also having a sale for a few days currently, so get on over there and get your shop on.

Then pop over to The Vault event, they have a lot of fabulous accessories items for you to enjoy, the ones I am wearing in this post are so great. The Sunglasses are a kind of steampunk style, that have so many options of customising, they are gorgeous and while they are meant to protect my eyes, I could not resist perching them on my head. They really look great against the striking style of Lamb Hair I am wearing in today post, and anyone that knows me, knows that I am all about the behind the shoulders options of a style hud, this has that, but as it was such a lovely long style, I wanted you to see that with the over one shoulder option, it has either shoulder, behind back and both forward, with two bangs choices, and how cute is this pink. I actually started out red and black today, and ended up pink and grey, I love Second Life for fun changes like that. This journal also is just adorable, and has a whole lot of colour combos. I wish you could change the strap separately, but it is still a must have item IMO. It is really beautifully detailed with smaller books sewn into the leather and hand stitched, they pulled off that so well. How am I paying for it all you may ask, well with my plastic money of course, another fun item from The Vault and comes as hand holds or a mouth-able, if the other things are hold-ables, makes sense it would be a mouth-able right?

Adobe Photoshop – Tips & Tricks – Libraries

I did a quick video on how to use libraries in photoshop to help you save time, and coordinate your workflow a little easier. A lot of SL is wash rinse repeat, doing the same jobs over and over again, but often spending time trying to find the bits and bobs we need to do that…this will help Bloggers and Store owners, as well as staff, providing templates for libraries so that everything is always consistent. I hope it helps.

    Hair Fair 2024 – Bandana Day ♥

    Happy Bandana Day 2024

    Hair Fair Hares

    Bandanas

It is the last day of Hair Fair so traditionally that is Bandana Day. You still have until Midnight SLT 16th June, to get your Bandanas, Hairwraps and Hair Fair Hares. They are all mod/transfer, so you can gift them to others, or just keep them all for yourself, and 100% goes to Wigs for Kids. I am so grateful to everyone that creates for them, those that decorate the ones we provide, those that create their own, and to Mirja Mills and Anya Ohmai for creating the bases of the Wraps and Hares for us to decorate each year and make unique, and of course Mel Vanbeeck for the Bandana base ♥

Hair Fair 2024 – Mina Hair Unleash

Hair Fair 2024 - Mina Hair Unleash

Another 40ish hours left of Hair Fair 2024, I hope everyone has had a chance to visit and if not, you still have time. Every item donates, and this year not only are there exclusive items on show, but some stores have chosen past releases to also donate, giving you a lot of options to help Wigs for Kids.

I am mixing styles again today. The Bonnie hair by Mina Hair is a whole selection of parts, a fantastic ponytail which I am wearing, which has a style hud for centre, left and right options. There is also a skull cap style add on for the hairbase that is made to fit various head types, my head type is not included, but if using the cowboy hat option it would have been perfect. I was not in a cowgirl mood, so I went with a BOM hairbase by Unleash also at Hair Fair and it being styled right for the tail position it was a great mix. Then added a gift headband and I am feeling very sleek and stylish. The Bonnie style is definitely a must have for those quickly throw your hair back into a stylised tail, and with it already being a hat style, that means you can use it with many other hats.

You have a few days left of Hair Fair 2024, so remember every item sold at the event donates a percentage to Wigs for Kids.

Hair Fair 2024 – Wasabi Flair

Hair Fair 2024 - Wasabi Flair

Mixing things up, wearing things in different ways, it is what makes Second Life the most fun…and Hair Fair 2024 – CLOSES 16th June at Midnight, so you have all weekend to shop – brings that out in me the most. I also had a little Hare jealousy going on from the other days piglet photobombing, so I just had to do a pic with one of this years Hair Fair Hares (Hearts & Crafts) isn’t he adorable, thank you again to Anya Ohmai for donating the Hares to the event for use each year to raise funds for Wigs for Kids.
Wasabi, has always made sure to make their items in ways that people may choose to use them differently when possible, and the Sun hair is no exception, it comes with an adorable tied bandana/scarf look around the top, and is just delightful for Summer. Wasabi did give the option to turn that off though, which means that you can wear other Hair Accessories with it, or go completely without, you do you.

I did me! This is the first year that Flair – the brand I co-create for with my incredible partner Mel Vanbeeck – are actually not only overseers of the event itself, but are participating. We made two exclusives and this is one of them, the Lilyfield Ruffle headband. When you spend as much time in conversation as I do with Gogo and Sparkle, you end up with a lot of ruffles and a lot of pink in your minds eye. So this headband was born, and I just love to add things to hair as you know, so the mixing of the two things, the fun Summery look by Wasabi and the headband just worked so well for me. I hope you like them both very much too.

    Hair Fair 2024 – High V No.Match

This video wasn’t planned to be long, but things happened! It gave me the opportunity to showcase two truly amazing exclusives at this year’s Hair Fair.

The video came together thanks to the incredible Perfect Cut Stylist Chair by High V – there are colour options and it is so much fun. While the styling animations are designed for larger hairstyles, as the chairs are a collaboration with Unorthodox, things worked out perfectly to again feature the No.Vanity hair set system by No.Match in more detail.

One of the important things when making a video – and this was meant to be a quick one – is that you can’t just add some great music and be done with it. You have to make sure the music you add is allowed, or you lose your content off YouTube, etc. That’s fair; I respect that and have no real issue with it.

I wasn’t going to talk – shock horror, I know! – but I wasn’t really feeling the allowed music available. Then, I remembered I had tried Suno, an AI music generator, a few months ago when trying to make my Mum nuts with some made-up Irish music. (She tortured me for years as a kid, so it was payback time!)

I opened it back up and came up with an idea, pressed generate, and got a really sweet song with music… but it wasn’t good enough. Because now that I had this thought, it had to be something really fun. Then, this happened, and it honestly captures everything about those Hair Moments we all experience: the way a new do can really change things for you, how looking after yourself and your hair can make a big difference in so many ways. And I truly feel that Hair Creators and Hair-related Creators give us that same joy in Second Life all the time… even more so every year during Hair Fair. Because of their kindness and generosity by giving to Wigs for Kids from their creations, they not only give us fabulous Hair and Hair Items but also a real sense of community.
I fell in love with the song making this, it is fantastic – to me – and it feels like an anthem for Hair Fair ♥.
This also gave me the chance to use the new Mirror features on the SL default Viewer. Thanks so much to Gogo of JuicyBomb.com for making available already made mirrors and some lovely EEP settings to use with them. I actually used the mirror in the doorframe of a backdrop to create a framed mirror look for my made up salon.

    Hair Fair 2024 - Beusy

I do love me some nautical looks, and the plushie heart hairclips by Chou has a galaxy theme print on one of them, and that just made me think of being out in the sea and the top was just perfect, with this adorable style by Beusy for the hair. The Peridot style is so many things, it comes across very girly, carefree daytime fun. Then it lends itself to a more mature look from a past era, think housework by 11am and then martinis for lunch. I do live a lot inside my head. There is a style HUD for the bangs, letting you turn them off completely and giving you that ability to wear others, or use have these long lovely side ones. I really want to see how cool this style looks with a visor hat now too, anyone for tennis? Hair Fair 2024 - Yomi

Just when you think it is safe on your platform/studio, along comes a Fancy Piggy, courtesy of my awesome friend Sparkle Skye, who sent me her this morning. Once rezzed and realising, she is way more Sassy than I am – she gets the extra S. I just had to try and be as cool as her with my Yomi hair, which is so gorgeous in its Scene hair way. We had a lot of scene styles back in the day, and this one is definitely reminiscent of that vibe. There is a separate purchase style HUD, and I think I got all the hairs available Exclusive and past releases in the Yomi booth at Hair Fair, because I was loving everything. The colour huds are abundant also, so you have a lot of options, in this style I went with the dark roots versions, and then of course spent another few minutes deciding which colour…but really like to keep on theme colour wise. There were event tintable versions of the Alaska Metro Laminate lashes to give a bit of a red look to. Winning! Hair Fair 2024 - Exile She Said Destroy HYBRID

I am certainly living my best Hybrid Hair SLife this year with Hair Fair styles. I took this fabulous exclusive style by Exile called Kory, and added the Bettie bangs and strands from She Said Destroy, also available at Hair Fair 2024. I love all these bits and pieces that you can turn into completely different looks, it gives you that edge – much like BOM – to your wardrobe. If you can add a little something that makes you stand out from the crowd, then go for it.

I also love the behind shoulders option in the styling HUD that Exile gives for this style, you get the forward left or right, but also behind shoulders, which makes it much easier to get dressed.

    Hair Fair 2024 – Sintiklia #187#

    Hair Fair 2024 - Sintiklia #187

I am feeling mighty again, this time though, with that kind of classic movies twist, where I host a fancy club/restaurant by day and then am ready to stab someone with my hair-stick, or drop some poison from the lotus into someone’s cocktail – I have a very good imagination when it comes to my Hair Fair combinations it seems.

Sintiklia made this braided bun/updo style, and it is giving all the looks, with the 5 options of wear with the HUD. Also a nifty materials selection as well. I like that it can be tailored to your vibe of that day, because updo’s especially are a real thinker, you either need them in the moment – which is why it was very normal to see girls in ballgowns shopping in hair stores in the older days – or you fall in love with them and then have to work them into your wardrobe, this one is an easy fit, because it has that very grand elegance to it, but can definitely go casual.

I had no particular hair in mind though when I bought this divine hairstick from #187# though, the fact that they came together so well is just…Bloggers Fate :P. But aside from my silly, it is just glorious, and so many options in the HUD for colour combinations. It feels otherworldly and just something one has to have, to round out their inventory.
