Culture Shock – I got your Poe
I read an interesting post earlier today, couldn’t work out for the lift of me how to comment on it, so will have to here I guess. It is an awesome blog, and great pictures from what I have seen so far, in this particular post CarolinaB is talking about blogging, and how a friend asked why and so on. Well even though I don’t know CarolinaB nor do I know the friend, I will answer that I am so glad she isn’t just ‘playing Second Life” I am glad that she is a blogger that has incredible style, beautiful pictures and knows how to captivate with her words.
Some may say there are too many bloggers now, or so many, I have even in context said there are way more now than there were. But I honestly believe that no one should ever feel we have enough, or that we couldn’t do with more, because what if people like Anya OhMai had thought that she wouldn’t add to the community, or people like Achariya Maktoum had felt that her particular looks and passion wouldn’t be needed in SL – by the way Achariya feel free to come back any time :P, and that is just some of the A’s. What if Milla Michinaga had felt that her returning to blogging wouldn’t be a benefit to anyone, well they would all be wrong and my world would not be a better place.
Without bloggers we don’t reach thousands a day, I mean Second Life isn’t known for spreading the word on its own creativity as a company very well. Personally I gag a little every time I see an IMVU advertisement somewhere there should be a Second Life one. But people like my friend Whimsy Winx came to Second Life because of blogging, she saw peoples pics on Flickr and then found Linden Lifestyles and Second Style, got hooked on their posts and joined this world 4 years ago and has become an incredible asset to the community.
Anywho enough rambling, so I went out and about inspecting some stores for Hair Fair 2011, I mentioned that the other day, and of course it ended up costing me money as I can’t resist shopping at the same time. So anyway, there I was shopping and saw this insanely fun hair from BC322 which comes in both options per colour, so you get more bang for your buck. Culture Shock is still on and a huge success from the word on the street, the skirts I have on today are the Peyote skirts from Fishy Strawberry at the event, such great pieces Fae released for this event, now if I could just get her making more hair.
Another item from Culture Shock is the top on the right, now this top is actually designed with a babydoll style flexi skirted attachment, with a whole lot of swirly aqua patterns that I loved at first sight, but then today just wasn’t dealing with it very well but loved it without lol. Yay for all the finished detailing on the shirt part, not just layer under prims. The necklace I am wearing comes from WTG, the same place my nails/bangles are from, the necklace is gorgeous and really brings up the turquoise love.
Another necklace to love is the amazing Raven necklace from League, instant love when I saw it in the poster for her FLF item this week, and yay looked to the left and there it was also for sale. Nena has been making some amazing jewelry lately, such an interesting sideline from her usual products, but I am cheering from the sidelines because they are really wonderful.
Other great jewelry are the milkyway bangles from Mandala, such pretty pieces that were on sale on marketplace a few weeks ago, you should check they may still be. I really love the necklace and bangles with this adorable pintuch blouse from Feather, a modern take with a cameo inspired necklace and a not so conservative take on a traditionally conservative shirt.
Finishing both looks with some great socks in heels from Maitreya Gold, both styles of sock shoes are so gorgeous, and the colours available are divine. It is settling on which ones to wear that is the hard part lol.

Hi all, what a week right? I swear being a day ahead of everyone sucks sometimes. Last night I kept saying I had a meeting in the morning, and it is actually tomorrow, so I would have woken for nothing, If I wasn’t already up at that time anyway. There is so much going on at the moment, have you heard that SLU has started their own feed? SLU has always been so community driven, Snapzilla is an incredible resource that I know many have been addicted to at one time or another. The forums help so many find things, and gather advice….mind you when they go on the attack they can be brutal. I especially love how when you post about new content the pic becomes a thumbnail on the sidebar of the pages. Cristiano is so talented, I once sold him a whole range of business wear and he lost it all
ah SL used to have some way funny bugs. We did get it back for him
and he was great to interact with in person, and he went on to great things.
On a side note, why is it that when something tastes awful, or you know/think it will you hold it in your mouth afraid to swallow, and yet it is being kept in your mouth where the taste buds are that lingers the awful taste…we are so silly sometimes.
What else has been happening? well Celestial Studios has announced it will be closing down on the 25th May, this is sad news for us oldbies, even though we may or may not have the whole inventory, it is still heartbreaking to see one of the founding fashion houses leave. That is what I call the ones that started the whole crazy in my opinion. There are still many of them out there, but seeing anyone that has influenced fashion so much pack up and go is a sad day. Not only clothing, but hair too, Celestial Studios hair was so cute, I was actually addicted to her demo texture. I still think to this day her cowgirl hat/hair is awesome. Her pants are amazing and the hobo bags in every single pattern are a must. It is such a shame that LL has made listing on Marketplace so complicated, because throwing it all on there to still buy would probably be something more stores would do rather than depriving us forever.
If you are looking for ways to waste time this weekend, try my new addiction Word Squared, seriously biggest Scrabble game ever, and you don’t have to wait for someone to have their go, which is the control freaks dream. The first time I played I came up with a 7 letter word, I was so excited, but typically no one saw it, so did it really happen ? I should have done Kalli’s thing and Gyazo’d it for a keepsake.
Ok on to the fashion. Mon Tissu released some goodies this past week, but also some great items from weeks past. I mixed the new skirt and lace top with the older jeans jacket. At first this was because I couldn’t find a suitable undergarment for the lace crop top, as it is a tad revealing. But I really like the Jean Jacket with this look, especially as weather down here has gotten cooler. The denim also tied in with the Troupe boots from Miel that have so many colour options and combinations they will keep you entertained for ever. Which also made me want to revisit the other Miel shoes Jane, so adorable these are, and as usual everything changes texture wise, so many combos.
In the middle my little nautical look is derived from the beautiful print top from Mon Tissu, the sculpting on this is wonderful and such great colours in the prints. The shorts I have on are the latest from Zaara, even though sculpted they are only side sculpted, so that you don’t have too much conflict ao wise, they are cute little flared shorts and have a kind of vintage shorts feel going on. More on the vintage front is the long line blouse from Mon Tissu. This blouse is styled to have that belted and pulled up and over look, and they pretty much nailed it, my only issue with the blouse is that the belt no matter what colour only comes in that brown. Which is not a great brown to match too, and I think if there was a black option too or even the colour of the lace, or all of them lol it would go a lot further in the mixing matching department. So even though I am on the brown spectrum with the look, if the belt had come in a darker brown it would have been bliss.
The hairstyles I am wearing are from Exile, these are three new styles and the middle one I did think was short from the poster, but it is in fact a longer style that is twisted around the skull, kind of Helga girl looking without the braids. It is very cool once you wear it, and the pinned in place effect just cries out for accessories, I was in the mood for big earrings, but I was worried they might get caught in my sweater :P.
Off you go and have a good one…

Join Me with JoinMe.com
I don’t know what you do in your day to day, but for me there is a lot of conferencing with others in world, and often out of world dependant on their schedules. Skype is the usual software of choice in that department, for more than one other it is perfect, well kind of perfect. Skype lets itself down in one area, the ability to screen share with more than one other person.
Often has been the case that I will be in a three or more person conference and someone wants to share something happening on their screen, or show what they are working on in Maya/Blender or whatever they are using. Or I myself may have learned a new PS trick and want to show the girls, but either have to explain it in words, or show them one at a time, and vice versa.
Recently Siddean Munro of SLink set up a channel on UStream so that anyone interested could watch her in Zbrush and that was awesome, but took so long to set up, not only for her, but also for myself as a visitor just wanting to watch. So I did a bit more investigating and found Join Me.
I am over the moon with this product and best of all, for the kind of uses I need it for, and am recommending it for, it is FREE. It will allow more than one on one to share screen up to 250 people can watch, no sign ups needed. The viewer does not have to have the software themselves, the system comes with built in chat, for those that aren’t in skype or just use text to communicate…and best of all and I have tried this and it is OMG so cool, you can actually take control of the persons computer you are viewing. So if you were trying to explain to someone to just move something a smidge, or you wanted them to realise that perhaps that would be better if it was hot pink, you could actually just do it for them, rather than spend time trying to explain in text or voice.
All you do is download the software if you want to share your screen EVER, and when you do want to you just click the JoinMe button and it will open a control at the top of your screen, you can then click on the control and copy/paste the JoinMe link and number that you then share with your friends, they click the link and voila their browser now streams your screen to whomever you want to see it. The safety level is that you see how many are viewing so you are able to know if someone is looking that shouldn’t be, but as it is a new link/number every time that would be pretty impossible unless it was sent to them from someone you shared with.
I also watched on of their videos HERE , the one that is normal, the others are a bit insane lol goes to show they have an over-active sense of humor at JoinMe.com because one of the vids was just plain crazy.
I love JoinMe and have been using is so much since I got it, all my friends have it now, and I have been watching Mel in Maya, and Whimsy in WoW…Ashia even came to inspect some hair stores with me earlier today without having to log into SL at all. So many uses, so have fun with it.
Culture Shock is in full swing now, and these are a few bits and pieces interspersed with some others, old and new. The hair from Shag is very sweet, and I am really liking the new sandals from Elate that go with the upcoming hippie summery styles being released. If you are in the mon tissu group and did not get your two group gifts this week, then make sure and check your notice archives. My notices are so broken for groups now since the expansion of how many we get, I don’t even use the full amount and now I don’t get what does come.
