Second Life Blogs! what, when, why?

BC1

What is it you like about blogs? Is flicking through them at a fast pace, and only pausing long enough to grab the details of something that catches you eye? Do you, like I do, actually hope to be stopped by words, some bit of insight into the mechanics behind choice, what drives the blogger to put together a look, what the blogger has to say?

Over the years I have learned many things from blogs and bloggers, other than the wonderful places to pick up an item that I would have otherwise not known about. I remember Sol Collumbia doing a post a thousand years ago about Ctrl 0 and Ctrl 9 it was sometime in 2007 and I remember running to Fiachra who makes Essentia Jewelry and worked with the smallest of prims he created, long before nanos existed, and told him of this amazing thing, it sure took a lot of strain off his neck and eyes.

The combination of Canimal and Caliah both doing windlight settings posts, that didn’t teach me how to make one, that I already knew,  but it was through those posts that I learned the idea of saving them to move from viewer to viewer, because who knew back then we would even end up with third party viewers and have to shake it all about.

I myself did a post after all the hullaballoo about them stopping us from using SL in our blog names, or having to TM everytime we refered to something LL based, where I refered to LL as the Mothership and Second Life as Phils Place, which actually prompted Chic Aeon to change the name of her blog so that they couldn’t give her drama.

I remember seeing Ryker blog about Xeniversity and the maya courses being held there, and how so many have since done them, that it has actually benefitted the overall quality of many stores items. If she hadn’t done that post, do you think it would have spread as far? Strawberry has been doing incredible tutorials for budding photographers and bloggers, and Katey Coppola of Glitterati has even done some amazing youtube ones for after the pic taking and wanting to make some adjustments and stuff in PS.

GoGo has done some emoter and lighting tutorials, and Cyclic has done some pattern making tutorials, which probably made many a designer up and coming or older go ooooo.

It was announced recently that LL thinks most of the information about Second Life is gathered and shared at Facebook, or some such nonsense, seriously I know that isn’t the exact wording, but I am a bit too miffed to give it too much space or foundation.

The fashion blogs, and all of the other information and sharing blogs that come from Second Life experience are amazing. I for one miss the planet feeds mainly for that reason, not only did I cherish the fashion planet feed, but the regular information blogs one too. A lot of the time it didn’t make sense to me, and a lot of it ran together, yes it was a big cluster of mess sometimes, but every few posts there would be something that let me know what was going on in my world other than a shoe sale.

New World Notes, Daniel Voyager ,  Phaylen Fairchild and Crap Mariner are the first that spring to mind when it comes to staying up with what’s down, or at least being entertained in some way on a different level for my brain. There was definitely a true disconnect, for me at least when I read that statement, I mean who the hell goes to Facebook for Second Life related info, we all know you go to the blogs, twitter or plurk…I do miss though when there was a lot more sharing on the blogs and in world though. I tend to think that many feel that plurk and twitter are all that is needed when sharing something important, but with timelines whizzing past, and the fact that you actually have to be following the ones that do things, a lot of valuable info is kind of lost. Or often I think that so much is shared via 100+ characters that people feel like they have said it already, so they don’t need to go further with it to the blogs or in world avenues.

I know I am rambling and weaving in and out of a point, but I just miss that sense of community we used to have, and don’t get all dramatic and demand we still do, I am not saying we don’t have a community, I am referring to how it used to be, something got lost somewhere, whether it is because there is so much to take in that all gets filtered out, or maybe it is just that everything has gotten so hard especially with blogging that just to get a picture to the page is hard enough. I know sometimes it can take 6 hours to take a few pics because of LL issues, and that is just so painful.

Anyway, I would just like to know what you like about blogs, why you read them or just skim, what if any really old informative posts you remember and by who, and why you think that they stood out to you most.

On to the fashion.

The hair I am wearing is the latest from Elikatira, see now there is another memory, Elika used to have a hair texture making tutorial on her old website, that is a tutorial I wish was still around. It is a lovely style, a bit on the mature side and definitely a permanent cut style for those that like sticking to one for a long time.

I am of course having a creamy chocolate day today, so with pieces from LG Femme, you have the beautiful secretary skirt which is the fabulous system skirt on the left, with the cinched waistband look, due to wanting I am sure to hide the top of system skirts that many seem to not like, I myself don’t care either way, for me it just means this skirt can give me two looks.

Then on the right you have the new lace leggings also from LG Femme, these are pantyhose in style with a zippered upper. they do come with cuffs at the ankles, but they were a bit too flarey for me what with the lace being so tight and all. So I opted for the typhoon boots from Paper Couture, the two tone look worked especially well with the stunner Digii highwaisted skirt from Luck Inc, I love that you can see the thin belt poking from under the gorgeous blazer I am wearing from 5th and Oxford, seriously if you don’t get over there and buy it all you are INSANE, as they are closing it down eventually, and this coat is actually from the mens side, with all mens looks only 50L buy everything.

Also from there of course are my all time favourite leather gloves on the further right me. Whimsy and I went to the To One Lounge event at the SLOW sim, and inside a cute little store is a whole slew of gorgeous dresses and items from various japanese designers. The unfortunate thing about the event is that for some reason nearly all of the items are called To One Lounge, and many do not even have the name of the store they came from…so make sure if looking for creator you look at the clothing layers, not the prims, because prims can sometimes lead you the wrong way.

The background is of course from the Second Life Stock Images Group on flickr, but is actually shot at Innsmouth a fantastic sim I once did a post at that took me so long trying to line myself up and get the right lighting etc, so now with the pics I already took I didn’t have to mess around that way lol.
