    Not pants, trouserrrrrrs

    Mon1

    Mon2

When something feels so wrong, it can end up soooo right. I love fate, how a day can be a disaster because people just make you feel all heartbroken and stuff, and the next day starts off golden with new people changing that, and slipping right into the space the others left behind. Mind you I cannot tell a lie, once over the hurdle of destruction that started yesterday, it ended up on a high actually, and I am looking forward to seeing where all the things it brought forth turn into. Face time makes me happy, actually spending time looking at the person I am chatting too, feels so much better than the constant IM’s, it is what made SL so inviting in the first place over other chat programmes and has to happen more often.

One thing that kept happening to me yesterday was admiration for my pants, true story, I was out and about and three times got asked where the different pairs I was wearing came from, sure enough both styles came from Mon Tissu, and were their latest release this week. The twill trousers up the top pic are gorgeous, the fact that they are also called trousers make my heart go pitter patter. The detailing on them is wonderful and the colours they come in are perfect. The sweetheart tank is beautiful with lace trim and such amazing fabric it is like soft velvet, so pretty and perfect to wear with pants or a boho like skirt perhaps.

Have you seen Lou Lou ? well you have now. The jeans in the second pic are called Lou Lou, and if you are old enough you will remember those fragrance commercials too. Great thing about these jeans, again complimented, is that they come with both pants cuffs options, often it  is varying types of straight cuff, like flared or bootfit etc, but in this case you get the rolled or straight and both are excellent, as well as the denim washes chosen, light grey and used were my choices, so nice.

Both looks I finished off from just the tanks underneath, even though the tanks on their own are so cute. The shrug on the left is the latest from Riddle, I love that she has gone into focusing on some seperates lately, and this shrug has such lovely sleeves, making it a little more standout than others. Mayden couture comes out with this amazing racing style jacket, and it comes with a variety of bases, with each collar cuff colour, so neat, and the pink is Yum. I went with the blue though because the make up on the new Tasia skin by UnBra is HOT HOT HOT.

A billion different cleavage options – exaggerating – and brow and hair base choices all come with the abundance of really rich make ups in the UnBra range, I will be showing more of those later. The glorious hair I am wearing is from Clawtooth by Clawtooth, do not despair ladies and lovers of all things hairy and vintagey, the Clawtooth main store has moved to LuLa temporarily until tableau is finished remodelling. I love the straight but so thick locks of both styles, and the bangs are just bonus, either sleek and tucked or thick and bushy, it is all win.

I am using Frooti poses today, and decided to go with the laying down pose up top, I don’t shoot often enough laying or sitting, so gave it a go, and it came out really cool, thanks Frooti.

    Long and Lush

    Chic

To be inspired it awesome, often is the case that those seeking inspiration can get discouraged and lose their way, not such the case with todays items. Nearly everything I am wearing was inspired by something, and they followed their instincts and produced it perfectly.

First off the ChiC Management event is starting tomorrow and has a group of incredible designers under one skybox roof, with a theme. The items are beautiful and seriously the skirt from Berries Inc is now one of my top ten favourite skirts of all time. BUT not how it was created lol, due to some serious viewer issues on my end the white frills that are supposed to exist between each layer at the back did not rez for yonks, but I fell so in love with it that way, that I took copy and edited them away. The crisp military look of this Amalia skirt is just divine, and even though I could have mixed it with some serious LeLutka Military stuff from their last release, I went further back to an old fav blouse.

The grecian dress on the right is all Royal Blue love, she has been creating up a storm lately both in RL and SL, her poor sewing fingers are aching. So that she has been able to do anything for us is a bonus. The skirt comes on two attachment points, but also has an alpha layer to take away your bum, so that your ao wont effect the look.

Now the Hair OMG it is about to be released in moments and is the new styles from LeLutka and they are STUNNING Must Haves, omg so sexy and just totally addictive wearables. The scarf hair Scarab is texture change and both styles are just awesome. You can also get them on Marketplace if you hurry and want to get them before anyone at the store lol.

    Ugg boot DNA

UPDATED Extend a Helping Hand Banner 2
Over the years, well all my life actually…I have been a total American Fan, all the way U.S.A. Then you came along and tried to take our Ugg boots. Then the doona, that was just not on, seriously the only time in 38 years I have been cranky with you has been over those two all Australian items, you can have the hillshoist, I don’t much care – I leave my clothes on it too long and they fade – but to actually go out and try and trademark what has been ours forever was just RUDE. But we won them back, and I forgive you.

Now those of you that have them, or have worn them, can never truly appreciate the Ugg boot if you aren’t, or haven’t lived in Australia for a long time. You can think you do, and you can get close to being right, but nope, it is ours and it is something that just runs through every Aussies DNA. For a start they went out from the mid 80’s until the late 90’s and you cannot convince a city dwelling Aussie otherwise. Indoor wear only was the Ugg, an expensive slipper, that allowed you to run out in the middle of the night and put out the trash when no one could see you in them. One night a house mate and I drove to the local chook shop for dinner and once out of the car I realised my feet were wayyyy too comfy, looked down and screamed, in the next split second there were two Uggs flying across the carpark because bending down too pull them off would have taken too long, I had to kick and flick and fast. If anyone had seen me I’d have died, and if anyone had been in the car park to see me retrieve them, I would have left them there forever.

But I cannot tell a lie, they do so have their practical uses, and now that it is ok to wear them in public again, they are great for ducking out to the shop because you just tore your last pair of stockings before a night out, so it’s a quick dash and slide into franklins and back to the house to put them on with whatever 6inch heels your going to actually go out in. I am not exagerating about the slide, Ugg boots and polished supermarket floors can be way dangerous, and super fun if you have good balance. There are some sexy looking Uggs out there now, and in SL that is no different.

My favourite Uggs of the moment are the ones by Bedlam an Aussie owner so true blue for sure, these have so many texture and colour options that they can co-ordinate with all your clothing, and even if you are frocked up for a dance, well depending on where you are, these are great for getting too and from without blistes because your new shoes haven’t been properly broken in yet. Speaking of frocked up, the second pic is me in the Queensland Party Frocks that are part of the Extend a Helping Hand fundraiser for our flood victims up there…these are by fellow Aussie Whippet & Buck they are so pretty and the fat pack is a steal, had to have it. The really pretty wold necklace around my neck is showing off a beautiful deep green leaf, and comes in both Male and Female options, also part of EAHH.

In the top pic I am wearing a mix of Mon Tissu, Riddle, Whippet & Buck and Fishy Strawberry, the Geisha belts from FS are so cool, they are an older item but do not date in their style and quality. The fun shorts by W&B are so cute, you can tell it’s summer down under with these being released, and even though I wore with the new Riddle leggings, they are still so fun and playful. The park ave shirt from Mon Tissu has a lovely line and length with curled up sleeve caps and its own waist belt not worn, but so cute for other occasions, I have actually worn the belt in a different post.

Another New skin by YS & YS this is Megan and such a different face than usual, I love the make up in this one, and its another that comes with matte lipsticks, you can either buy seperate or included, as well as new eyeshadow packs that match a few of the newer skins. The hair is also older from LeLutka, but I tell you what the styles about to come out will have you screaming for more more more.

    Extend a Helping Hand

UPDATED Extend a Helping Hand Banner 2

Today I am wearing beautiful clothes, with stunning accessories, skins and hair. They all deserve to be praised and talked about as I usually would. But I don’t feel worthy of the right words today, I have read Newdolls eloquent post about how it feels to be up there in Queensland right now, and anything I say will just seem forced, but please do go and Extend a Helping Hand whichever way you can, whether it be purchasing an item, dropping some lindens in a donation kiosk or adding your own items to sell, Sanura Sakai is letting people add throughout the event.

My heartfelt prayers go out to those who are in the area, as well as those that have family or friends there, it is a scary time right now in Australia.

    Extend a Helping Hand

UPDATED Extend a Helping Hand Market Sign

Over the years in world I have seen Australians pull together in support of international charity and events without hesitation, no matter what the cause we try and do as much as we can, when we can. Well now we are going to ask for you to Exstend a helping hand. In Queensland they are suffering through floods of outrageous destruction, and it is summer for us, so we were not prepared for anything like it – not that you ever can be.

Sanura Sakaii of the store Sanu that adorable one near Scribble, has gotten together an incredible amount of people to organise an event starting on the 11th of this month, and anything you can do to help is appreciated. More info can be found at her blog HERE …there are also donation boxes around SL already I have one at the landing point at The Deck , every little bit can help.

    Derby Girl

    Roller

    Icer

The other week when I did the Ballgowns and Ballgags post I alluded to my next mixed theme. Mel of course coming up with it, but to my surprise there is not one of the items on marketplace at all. Now this is bizarro world to me, because I would assume this would have been made dozens of times, but either the spelling of the listings are wrong, or google can’t spell, because I checked my spelling twice just in case.

His theme was Lederhausen and roller skates, no kidding it was, and such a fun and frollicky idea too. But alas no lederhausen, and I couldn’t handle tping all over the place, so I improvised and then changed completely. But to my surprise also Mel was the one that found the awesome Rollerskates I am wearing that are actually also scripted to be iceskates, an all in one pair that has its own hud to change colours of boots, wheels, laces, and warmers, all so fabulous and the price is fantastic.

The skates come with their own AO and they are so easy to use, not only do they look great, but the all in one is a wonderful space saver. The railing I am leaning against is the latest from Diesel Works, the railing comes in both three piece arch shape or straight , the fun thing about it as soon as I saw it was that you could build your own rink lol. The style is very stylish, it could also work on a ship, on a balcony or even a runway… all so much fun and great poses.

The hairstyles I am wearing are the other two released on the weekend by LeLutka, again anime inspired and lots of fun, I especially love the sweep up high front of the Pam style. Claire by Tuli is the skin I am wearing, another recent release, and be sure to check out the new build over at the Journey Sim, Tuli has worked hard on it as usual, great changes to many sims at the moment with the new year.

In the top pic I am wearing the white loose shirt from Mr Poet, such a nice casual look, and just the right side of sexy being a mans shirt and all, the closes I could think for the lederhausen was the shorty overalls from Ivanka Akina, but then I decided last minute to go with the denim shorts from the same store. I stopped by Bubble yesterday and picked up this fun ruffled bodysuit that works so well for skating, and adding a shrug from sn@tch for added warmth with all that ice to skate on.

    Rock Star

    may

    YS

Sometimes you just have to bring out your inner RockStar. These outfits are way fun in that regard, especially the one on the far right, the Jade set allows for mixing and matching with other items, and what is not to love with the individual pieces of it. I love the jacket and pants, and can totally see using the belt for other looks.

A great pair of heels for this look are the open toed backless ankle boots from Adam n eve, they are called New Yorkers, and I can totally see these babies strutting up 5th. They come with a hud that allows for change of skin tone, also allows for change of nails and the fun beads laced up the back.

With all these looks I couldn’t resist wearing Tokyo, the latest hair release from LeLutka, inspired by it’s namesake and probably way too many hours kicking peoples bums at Tekken , this style is a frenzy of kick bummedness – yes that is a word, coz I say so. IN the 80’s high ponies were the craze, higher the better, it was almost like a free facelift for older women lol. This style is so excellent, very anime runway inspiring, and seeing as I have been watching hundreds of hours of anime lately, I am deeming myself a professional on the matter lol.

The skin I am wearing is Julia, from YS & YS what I really like about the make ups on this skin is that you get matte lips as well as the glossy in most of the make ups, and they are excellent as soptions, you can also actually purchase the lipsticks on their own in matte, as they go with a range of the newer skins. All of the excellent add ons that are so usual with YS & YS freckles layers, cleavage options and hair bases.

    War war is stupid

    LeLu

Elikatira released new hair the other day, and the style is one that works as both a professional pulled back look, as well as an adorable youthful style.I really enjoy the colours of Elikatira’s range, there is something sun touched about this one, even though a brown it has the makings of a blonde.

I was having an 80’s flashback with the look today, tulle and military looks, what more can one fashionista over 30 ask for.The skirt is tres fab because of its solid  sculpted structure underneath, mixed with the whirly flexi tulle above. The jacket made me giggle, because I imagined what I would get medals for, I have in the past seen such things with their own giggle worthy info, but these are left sleek and shiny and up to your own imagination. I know Whimsy deserves a medal for trying to save all the Paper Couture shoes while they burned Tableau to the ground earlier this week, that was a hoot…you can see some pics of that on my flickr.

This is definitely a fun and frivolous outfit, and I am looking forward to more fun from LeLutka in the future, there is a definite slant towards mixed aesthetics coming from over there of late, yay for 2011.

Ok so now that I got my rant on earlier, now is the time for some pretty pretties. First off some beautiful new skin from Tuli, the Emma skin is a lovely fresh faced beauty, and now with the new tones and omg lush eyebrows you can play all day with the variet of make up choices. Now the eye shadows come on the base skins themselves and the lipsticks are separate, so with the ability to wear that many lippies with one shadow is awesome. I really like the new tones, but I am so loving the copper eyebrows as shown in the main skins pics.

All the better to show off the new hair from Exile, va va voooooom they get sexier each and every release. The second blonde style Stephy is actually a donation style for the fundraiser that Voshie Paine is running, so be sure to go and grab it to help out the little girl Kajsa and her family.

The other day Mel and I were out and about and he saw some leggings on a girl, and said wow that took some work from the designer, and I told him that I had them, and yes, lots of work to create such a complex design so well. Osakki since they reopened has had not only these leggings but many more, and some fantastic outfits that are very out there fashion wise, in the good look at me way.

In the top pic I am wearing some fun Pididdle items, with the fab patent belt from Maiiki, the yellow in the high waist skirt is just wonderful and the sweater is a cropped length so it is great having both items on all layers, giving the ability to make sure it all works. The Pea Coat trench I am wearing is system skirt love from Eclectic Apparel.

Eclectic has used the template superbly to create this lovely design piece. that can be worn as a dress on its own, or over pants or another skirt due to the use of the system skirt. This is the type of outfit that just screams late night rendesvous with dark and handsome men or women, whatever way you roll.

The boots I am wearing are the most recent release from SLInk, they are a great hiker style boot, and I just love their ruggedness that makes them totally wearable in the opposite more clean and sleek fashion conscious way. Or you can just go hiking, but I like my way better lol. There is an option to wear with or without the sock at the top, which is nice and easy to do with the hud, the leather is soft and comfy, and I am so looking forwards to more in the SLink line I hear rumors of other accessories :P.

    It is not a race

    STOP

    STOP

    STOP

    STOP

    STOP

    STOP

    STOP

    STOP

Now repeat after me “I am not in a race” exhale and do it again ” I am not in a race”. Now close your eyes and say it slowly out loud “I am not in a race”. I would honestly love to know you are saying it another twenty times if I had my way, but hopefully those first few are enough to have gotten your attention.

Every few months or so I have my little rants, they aren’t scheduled and rarely are they about anything too crazy…more often than not it is because I have been a witness to events that drive me to want to scream out at you all, this is one of those times.

It is the new year, and if you look back at 2010 what do you actually remember of it? to me it was a whirlwind, a blur of events and schedules that no one could rationally keep to. I am not actually even talking as a blogger, I am actually trying to communicate these feelings to you the designers out there.

Never in all of the years I have been in Second Life have I ever seen so many stores closing down. Yes there have been the fun closing down sales with the same people opening back up a week or so later. But that is not what I mean, I mean actual closing down of stores, one after the other.

When I started Second Life there was so much press about the fact that people were able to give up their RL jobs to create here and keep themselves afloat financially, and it was wonderful, a new frontier so to speak. Then over the years it got a little harder to actually maintain that kind of income from a business here, and many have hobby stores etc, those that they do because they love to create, but it isn’t their only form of income etc.

Regardless of how your business provides for you financially, it is from the sidelines looking in – I say sidelines because I have a lot of day to day dealings with designers from all over – that it’s becoming an amazing challenge to stay afloat and again I am not talking money.

All I hear these days is ” I have to get four items ready for this, this and these two events ” or ” I don’t have time to do that, because I have to do this this and this” or worse ” OMG I can’t participate in those because I put mysellf down for these and I don’t have time”.

How many of you say those same things, week in and week out, or feel completely overwhelmed by the so called expectations of your customers?

Now you see that is the interesting thing there, it isn’t the customers that are doing this to you, it is some sense of having to feel involved or you will be left behind that is overwhelming you, dictating your business strategy and the way you provide for your stores. With the constant having to come up with items for events, hunts, and the whatever, you are sucking up all the real design juice you have flowing within you.

I have seen stores be in every event, participate in every single hunt and whatever, and yet not release an item in their store for months, MONTHS! and you can pretend that isn’t happening, but look at how fast the weeks are piling up, to make items for two events, can take many upwards of two weeks, then the events happen and by the time you are ready to sit down and create again, the release doesn’t happen for another 3 or so, and then worse case scenario someone asks you to be in something else, or you remember it’s your week in something your on a rotation for. For about 2 months straight last year it felt like every second day was Friday – no offence to any events on that day, but for me friday is about the only day of the week that actually registers.

I sit there and I look at people that don’t participate, and I see them release ‘Collections” and people come from all over to see them, to see what amazing work these designers have spent their time on creating for a release. But it isn’t just that they don’t participate, because sometimes even those stores are involved in things, I just mean, it used to be that we would wait anxiously for our favourite hair stores to release an item and click TP and cry as it declined and try and try again.

I once had a conversation with a designer who told me that if they didn’t participate that they wouldn’t have any sales at all, because when they release new items no one buys them. Well see that to me is because their fans already had their hit. A lot of Second Life shopping is based on the catch. If you look at a normal shopping day, we buy more than we can wear, every single time. In the old days I would be known to buy so many hairstyles in one day, that I would have to swap them every two hours. I used to ache for new hair, omg it was physical pain in my chest, needing it, you know how I talk about my hat cravings, well hair was insanely worse, and we had so few hair creators back then.

But the hair creators, the clothing creators, the ones we did buy from, they had time, they dictated their schedule, they spent the hours upon hours designing a collection or even just a few pieces to release into the wild, and people still came, if they did their marketing and so forth well.

People also often argue that the hunts, events and so on bring them customers, that is true, to a degree, but if I see a girl in denim jeans down under her bum cheeks and a strip of dental floss for a bra – again don’t take offence I have a hundred pairs of those jeans, and I am looking for that bra 😛 – if that girl is in a store with a completely different style of clothing etc, they are not your target, sure they may come back one day, but when it comes to Second Life fashion, they are not your customer YET.

Again I am not bashing events, it would be stupid to do so, and the people that run them do an incredible job. But I am looking at the designers, who are ignoring their own customers, their own groups, and focusing on ones that come from elsewhere, they don’t communicate with their own fans anymore..and those are the ones that want to know your doing more, releasing lots and can bring a gaggle of friends to your store to shop, but often is the case they want you to just create for them to buy, they don’t need to search for it, or have it marked down, they just want to honestly see it released and buy it then or come back another day they can afford to, but could possibly tell a few friends about it at the time too.

I am also not saying shower them with gifts , ok maybe a few lol we all love presents, but let those people know it is because you appreciate their business. I remember people used to do things with their subscribos that if they reached however many, they would give a gift, that was fun, that meant they had definite new people that had interest in them, because regardless of free, if you aren’t into what they sell, free isn’t such a big deal.

I just want you all to slow down, not push yourselves so hard that when it isn’t working you blame yourself…that is not even acceptable. I want you to sit back and look at other ways to promote your business, smaller things, things that will showcase you and your talents. Hold events at your store, make sure you open a blog for your own store, surprises me still how many don’t do that, and don’t even dare say you don’t have time to do that, because it is only one more tab open on your computer and when you send your notices in world, you can copy and paste onto your blog.

work out your finances and look at your XML’s and see and compare, see what it is that is actually doing it for you. I used to run an event every sunday at my old work, many actually still remember that, as it comes up in convo often. One item was 1L the other was 100L, but never were these items new enough to run at a loss, and the event was only a few hours, and was also just a change of price on the vendors themselves with clues in the notecards they had to work it out. Something simple like “Billy —— is not my lover ” and of course they would all rush to the jeans section.

But the best part about those days was that everyone was there same time, and so was I, yelling and helping and laughing with the customers. Of course some would find out they already had the items, but no one was ever rude about it, because they had fun for however long they were there. Now I was able to see the info of those sales, and I was able to see that many that bought the 1L and 100L items also bought many other things, and many new names would come up, because when the notice would go out, the members of the group would be with friends and drag them along etc.

This went on for a few months but then I noticed that sales of the older items were declining through the week, because they were waiting until sunday, so the event stopped. It was never meant to damage business, and didn’t for a very long time, so after that I found a new way. But it was always the stores own people, who brought more people, and would wear their items, and be seen by other people.

That is where your time needs to go, I know many designers are shy as hell, but usually have friends that aren’t, do an event and ask your friends to be your vocals in chat, make some quirky party gifts and have a blast dancing to cheesey 80’s music, and do it during the time you just released something new.

So many residents are just as shy as you, that is why they shop, they do so to mingle without commiting, they get involved in hunts and stalk lucky chairs and so on, because it gives them a chance to be around other people, and maybe stumble into a conversation. There are hundreds if not thousands of SL residents who met that way, and became great friends.

I know I am rambling all over the place as usual, but it scares me to see people pushed so much to get to the finishing line of a race that doesn’t exist. I think that it spreads them so thin that they can’t find what it is they loved about SL and creating in the first place. Step back and look at the stats and if running the marathon works for you, then so be it, but if you find yourself just a frazzled mess who is overwhelmed by it all, STOP and find why you started in the first place.
