Your Mumma wears army boots
I watched an incredible movie the other day, the idea was that you got to know exactly when you would fall in love with your soul mate. The movie is called timer, and you would think it would be straight forward and all that, but it was amazing the different things that could go wrong, or right as the case may be. What would it change in you ? the idea of knowing that something had a timer on it, wealth, happiness, love…would you be reckless until then? would you be a lazy moo and do nothing lol. All interesting thoughts really, fun film, you should watch it if you see it around.
Speaking of movies, Whimsy and I went to the unveiling of Harbinger last night, it is the latest movie by Phaylen Fairchild, and it is a totally different direction than Divas. This movie was scary, unfortunatly since last night it has gone private on YouTube, but probably just for some last minute editing. So you should look it up when you have a moment and want to be scared out of your wits.
Anyway, on to not scary things. The new boots by Gos are GTFO. These boots are great hiking style boots, with wonderful texturing features, as all Gos items have. This time though it will only be the fat packs that allow for combination changes, otherwise it’s a set look per colour combo. They were a perfect accompaniement to the latest items from Royal Blue, have you seen the new Royal Blue store? it is fabulous, a floating flagship in the sky, you really need to check it out, especially if you have been wanting some of her older items from her leLutka range, as they are all now in her outlet section.
I am wearing her What’s Up Spock leggings ( Marni has the best names for things) with some upper items from Aoharu, the off the shoulder top is just divine, and the simple leather jacket is going to get lots of wear in the future, it is stunning work texture and sculpty wise. The beautiful bag I am wearing on the left is a latest release from Ondyra Originals, the Marina Shoulder tote, such lush colours these come in, and the weave is great, they come with three options for wear, and the colours go with the shoes and clothing also recently released.
In the second pic I am wearing the latest Lounger sets from Fri.day, so fun and comfy, so much so that I went shopping in the sage and even then onto the movie premier in it last night lol. They all come in matchy matchy colours and prints, but you can of course mix and match like I did. The colours are also lovely for extenders under even shorter tops, as they come on all layers. After the movie I had a great time on the “Reap the Wild Wind bookpile’ created by W.Winx (which is of course Whimsy ) this build is amazing fun, and brings you back to those days home sick from school, when you could turn your imagination into the most wonderful of adventures.
You will of course have noticed all the beautiful hair I am wearing in this post, it is all by Elikatira (previously ETD) the styles are just beautiful, and luxurious in texture, I would be so hard pressed to find a favourite, I know that one in particular has been seen sported by many, but I would have to say Vivid the bottom right in the grey is just divine, It has everything and more you can want in a hairstyle….so beautiful.
Which brings me to the last pic, all of this of course wrapping itself around the divine pale version of Mima by LAQ. This skin was released just moments before Halloween, and I didn’t have a chance to show it then, but I don’t think it should only be considered as such, as it has such wonderful make ups, and only two of the skins comes with blood, which can be used for art, machinema, halloween, costumes, or RP, whatever works for you. The tone is beautiful and I decided to bring out the adorable dress by Rotten Toe to do it justice, as well as The Corrector neck corset, that seemed to fit right in.
To even out the visual I went with the latest wings by Material Squirrel, these are so amazing, that Kala has gone on to create in sculpted form, what she has always done with prims, is a testament to the passion and education that Second Life inspires amongst its residents.

The High Res Myth
Often Mel and I discuss questions that often come up in groups, or IMs about different things regarding Second Life limitations. I am not an expert, much of what I know I have learned from others, and by observation. What I do know though is that when I am stumped about something, I tend to go to Mel, and usually he has an incredibly precise answer. This was a recent discussion, and he mentioned that I should do a post on it, so I sent that idea back to him and invited him yet again to share his wisdom. I do hope that you get as much knowledge out of it as I did.

To some, this information is old news, but once in a while I run across designers who misunderstand something and begin to design and advertise “high res” clothing, which is built using 1024×1024 clothing textures with the hopes of allowing for more detail in the clothing design. If this were truly possible, it would be great! Unfortunately, the way the clothing system works in SL, it is not at all beneficial to upload 1024 textures for clothing, and in some cases it is even harmful to the design, as I’ll illustrate below.
For this example, I have made 2 textures containing 1 pixel wide black and white vertical stripes – one with 512×512 pixels, and the other with 1024×1024. The textures were then applied to a skin, and I have photographed the results.
This first skin is using the image with 512 pinstripes on the 512×512 texture. As you can see, the stripes are present in as much detail as the viewer allows.
Here is the skin with 1024 pinstripes on a 1024×1024 texture. As you can see, the detail of the stripes is completely lost, as every pixel has been averaged out to 50% gray.
What happened to the pinstripes?
When you wear clothing layers in SL, there is a process that takes place to attempt to reduce the amount of data that needs to be sent to other avatars who can see you in world. It would require a crazy amount of bandwidth if the asset server had to send over every single texture for every clothing layer of your outfit, so the viewer does a little trick. When you wear an article of clothing, your viewer downloads the individual textures for all the clothing pieces, then sandwiches (bakes) them together into a single image for each of the parts – legs, torso, and head. This allows the entire outfit to fit into 3 textures, instead of the dozens of textures that go into the layers. These 3 textures are then uploaded to the asset server to be sent to anyone who can see your avatar. When the viewer generates these textures, they are generated at 512×512 resolution regardless of what the resolution of the clothing layers actually are! This is why the 1024×1024 resolution images these designers create never actually make it onto the avatar. This gray, unstriped avatar we see above is the result of resizing the 1024×1024 image down to 512×512. The color of each group of 4 pixels gets averaged together, and then turned into 1 pixel as illustrated below.
As a result, the detail of the stripes is completely destroyed, leaving behind only flat gray.
So! If you ever run across a designer claiming to sell “high res” clothes or skins, at least for the time being, they are either mistaken about the limits of SL clothing, or trying to create a false impression that their goods are on another level from those of “normal” designs. In the end, it’s all just a question of what they can fit into the 512×512 pixels they’re allowed, so just look closely at the design and let your eyes do the talking.

Happy Anniversary Beulah
First off seeing as I am so slack and did not participate in the actual request…I wanted to aknowledge that it is the one year anniversary of Beulah Mills blog One thing at a time. A year is a huge achievement for any and all bloggers, it is that milestone that carries you into the nostalgic transition phase. You will question the way you blog, how you represent your blog, and what it is that you want to say or do with your blog. Beulah has always represented herself as one classy lady, the Manager of Ivalde and a very professional person. I have had dealings with her over the years both work related, blog related and more recently friend related…though we don’t talk that often, she is always so kind, and really lovely to know, and an incredible right arm for her Boss, with whom she is loyal like crazy for. Happy Anniversary Beulah and I hope that you see many more.
A stunning recent release of hair from Exile, these styles made me happy happy joy joy. Especially Crissy which is the updo that has two versions, one with bangs and this one without, I think both styles are fun, but I do adore the without more. Jennifer is the hat hair and we all know I love my hat/hair, this one is super fun, the style of hat is creative, and straw with different colour options is all win. The 3rd style Mella is a very flouncy curls style, not exactly beachwear style, but in this case, I only got into the water as high as you can see on the dress.
How fun is that, I have an old tshirt from a freebie box back in 06′ that is wet look, and I cannot throw it away lol, but the tank dress from deetalez may make that possible to do. You need something to cover up the mini micro kini, so little and leaves nada to the imagination. I am wearing the jolie pied feet from SLink, they recently sent out an update on these, so if you didn’t get yours, maybe check your inventory or ask the creator, these are the mid ones, that are partially on point, not sure if it was all of them.
The skin I am wearing is from Amacci, the skin is a recent release and as usual comes with a huge array of options. Cleavage, hairbases, and a hair bun for wearing the base with, so pretty too. I am only showing a few of the make ups available, there are 16 in all, so make sure you check out all the demos.

Halloweeny Roast
Speed Blogging, I gave myself 50 mins start to finish, and asked Mel and Whimsy for a theme colour wise, of course they had to be nasty and go with purple. But I definitely won out with this look and a much loved store. Also as it is halloween it was a different take on the dressing up in costume idea. Four mins left to spare YAY.

This Bird Girl flies
I love comics, as I have said here on numerous occasions. Mel is a huge fan of Manga, so is Whimsy and her kids…but I unfortunatly find it really hard to read right to left. It isn’t just the collums etc, it is even in what order you read the characters words, and that is way confusing for me, I do not know if it is because I do read a lot of comics strips still, am hooked on One Big Happy at the moment – ah Ruthie you are the cutest 6 year old EVER! I guess I will just have to go back and try and try again.
Today is a hair day for sure, with the release of 7 stunning styles from Maitreya. Three of them are hat hair, and one is a new scarf style, that will of course go with the volumen scarfs buyable seperately at Maitreya. The first look is combining that street look of fall, Royal Blue created the coat and jeans for Call for Couture – almost over – and I added the bag from Lelutka and a sheer tank from Eclectic Apparel. The necklace I have on is the Gilded Virgin from Whippet & Buck, I bet there is a story to that name, and if I am lucky they will tell me. Mind you it is so delicate and beautiful that it could be innocent of any fun tales.
Second we have this gorgeous Nordic poncho cardigan from Aoharu, seen previously in a solid knit, the nordic allows for more colour. I have on an oldie but a definite must have, the savoir top from Maitreya, these come in sheer and solid and are awesome for so many mix match oppurtunities.I tinted the fantastic cable knit socks from Riddle to go with, and added the divine Drew skirt from Whippet & Buck. This skirt is fab, with a high waist on all layers, so that you can still wear a jacket if needed. It even has a delightful little pocket at the front. A delish outfit calls for delish boots, and these ones are from Stellar, I have seriously been neglectful in showing these, as I had them set up at my landing area at home for weeks to remind me to blog them, and then kept tping directly to the studio and not even seeing them. Bad me, but they are so snuggly.
The next outfit could have me start with the Christmas Carols early – ignores the fact that I sing them all year around, and drive my friends batty. The other night Newdoll was wearing one of these prettyful tops, and declared ‘they need to make more’ I agree. These are delicate and delightful. The red had me looking no futher than the ribbon skirt also from Aoharu, but it was seeing the hint of blue in the plaid waist of the top that had me going straight to my Maitreya folder for some much loved tartan leggings. Not identical but enough to be matchy matchy.
Lastly and a way to choose your own advventure, the Paige striped skirt from W&B is great, it has all that lovely flexi volume, with an empire line band, allowing you to add whatever you fancy to the top. In this case I went with corresponding colours in their own simple bustier. Works a treat and makes a dress to go to a regatta in. Staw bag for my picnic lunch and these posh booties from Gos that are delightful and safe for walking long distances. They are so nicely styled and definitely have an older style charm to them.
All of these looks combine the Castalia skin from Glam Affair. The skin is divine, the make ups are gorgeous, especially the sensual lips and smouldering eyes. You get the down there on seperate layers and tatoos, and all in all it is a very sexy skin…DEMO DEMO DEMO.

Alice, Alice who the bleep is Alice
I had an awesome night tonight, first off tping around different places with Newdoll and Whimsy. It was like old times, we were just missing Ashia and Justice, hopefully next time. We ran by the Artilleri SALE, making lots of OH NO SHE ISN’T sounds to eachother in skype, about items that are going to be discontinued. The upside is that it means more room for newness, and as we had most of everything, we are excited.
If you have some alts in need of a make over, now is the time though, 60L skins and all of the clothing is around that price too, male stuff also. I was excited about what I was going to post today, due to the new poses out by aDORKable, not only did they nail the sorts of sets that always are a much needed style, but they are including mirrors of every pose from now on, and even going back to change older ones. The fun that can be had with mirror poses is awesome, and even though they have been around before in other stores, they are the first to my knowledge to include them at no extra charge, so thats more bang for your buck WOOHOO.
Going all Brownzilla in the first pic, the oversized tote is fantastic and available from Addict @ Call for Couture – not many days left of that event, so hurry up. The chained necklace is also from there, and wow its a really beautiful one. hard to do lots of chain strands without them getting a tad messy and hard to edit, but this one fit straight away. Wearing another of the Swift hairstyles from LeLutka, this one is hat hair love, and comes texture change, so you can mix and match for days lol. The clothing is all deetalez, and I especially love the fabrics used to make each piece, lovely texture work, and really warm fabrics.
The next look gave me a chance to properly show off the Calypso slips from Eclectic Apparel. When I finally saw the slips come about, I knew exactly what style top I wanted to wear under, and even though I had older ones, this one I got yesterday is perfect. Adding the Lucid belt from Fri.day you would have your work cut out for you trying to get me out of this look. traveling up to the newish hair from Magika, Josie, and yes I sang that song all day of the release, I had actually read a comic of Archie and Josie and the Pussycats doing a battle of the bands a few days prior, so that didn’t help lol. I was loving the black and white, but a splash of red in the streaks, lips and bases of the fabulous ankle boots from G’field, these are also a release at Call for Couture and so lovely.
We ended off the night at the Albero Gatcha Festival and I probably could have spent every cent I had at the Theosophy one, because those bags are AWESOME. Make sure you get some, and if you get two Alice ones Newdolly wants one desperately.

Rooti Tooti Fresh and Frooti
In many of my posts, especially my early on ones, everything started with the hair. I love Second Life hair, I think that even though I started just after flexi was created, it has always been my favourite item of all things.The styles, the colours, the techniques, how they have changed over the years, what was popular once faded out, and then can turn around and become ever so popular again. The sculpties put us back into static hair mode, and when flexi mesh sculpts come about, the whole world will change again. Lucky for us Elikapeka Tiramisu is back, and back in a huge way.
Elikatira her new brand opened it’s doors quietly on the weekend, no fanfare or fuss, it was not needed, because as soon as the wind carried the message that she was open they came in droves. Many will remember the old between builds times with ETD, sitting on the side sims waiting for her to open, trying to cam in and get a sneak peak. I remember one such event that actually included free only for group members, two packs of unreleased hairstyles. To have these was to really feel something special. I even know a girl that will say she met me over a gift box at ETD, but in this case it was a misunderstanding I helped her with.
There are fewer and fewer stores around now that you can have such memories of, I have a few ETD ones, and now am so excited to have the chance to make new Elikatira ones. The new opening brought with it ten new styles, and one of those is a store gift, called Sey – nto yet shown. The ones I am showing today, range from casual to dressy, and all can interchange in that regard, but pointing out the second one which is Escape, as soon as I put it on I ran to google and looked up Sharon Stone Basic Instinct, and sure enough the hair is almost exact. True perfection for shorter hair lovers, with a definite attitude going on.
While I couldn’t at the time find the white turtleneck and coat, I took it to now, and mixed some Aoharu, Deetalez and Nyte n day. The Aoharu poncho coat though advertised as White, has a greyishness to it, so lucky for me the white knitted skirt from Deetalez that is gorgeous, was mod, and I was able to bring it to the same tone. A little revealing cropped sweater from Nyte n Day and to finish off the stunning fringe western boots from Anexx. I adore this look, and the hair, wowza. Back to the top though, I am wearing the new coat from Baiastice, this is a very nice cut coat, with shoulderpads, and adornments of gold.
Very stylish and worn with either pants or in this case the Calypso slip from Eclectic Apparel – the go to of the season – you can look amazing for any situation. I really like the somewhat messyness of the Away updo, it has a real lived in look, as does all the Elikatira hair so far, not too immaculate, because that ends up looking way too fake, this one looks like I have worn it all day, and with the removal of some pins and some finger tousling I would be HOT. My first hair in SL was pigtails, and I don’t care that I am 38 I will wear them in SL and I would damn well still wear them in RL, maybe not like the first ones, but definitely similar to these. Wearing with one of my favourite sweaters from Eclectic Apparel, I had all that skin to show off, that I added the lovely necklace from Exodi. Some gorgeous slim fit jeans from Deetalez – I love these and they are not too low slung, so they are wearable by all.
With that and the next pic I am wearing the Prima sandals by Kalnins, usually a multitude of colours, but in both cases the all white options worked well. The next outfit is how I end the day, because it is too perfect to not want to stay dressed in and pretend it is a lazy saturday. The clothing is from Zaara, and these boho style prints and pieces are just perfect for the upcoming heat I am expecting down here. The fabric choices, the colour combinations all work in these pretty styles…adding some older Jewelry also by Zaara and the loose tied plait down the back in the form of Melody, I am totally loving the look.
You may notice I am wearing two different skins this post, the Phoebe 2 and Claudia 2 by LAQ, the up close pics are Phoebe 2 I will do Claudia 2 another day, but it is so amazing to see the difference in both, Claudia being like an older sister to Phoebe. Claudia 2 still have a lot of attitude while Phoebe 2 is still somewhat innocent. Try them both out, and they both come with hair base options, and there are a lovely amount of add ons you can purchase at the store now, including the recent addition of different sized cleavage options, and hair base/brow colours.
All the poses used in this post are from Frooti, a new store and not so new resident. Willow Zander has opened up her pose store at Elikatira sim, as you can see from the layout pic. I am so glad to see Willow having her own store, as many of you will know she has been the Manager behind Celestial Studios,and now Elikatira and of course a fabulous blogger. If you have been by the sim, you will have noticed there are stores that are empty, you can apply to rent at Elikatira, which is kind of awesome, giving everyone a chance from the start, rather than opening with a sim full. Losing my head
I just got back from the store with Whimsy in a ballgown, the one in the last pic, it felt so 2007…don’t many of you miss those days? I know I do. The buying hair because the 63765654 styles you already have don’t go with your gown. Or you realise that your date is wearing the wrong colour tie for your dress, and rather than have him change to match you, you totally think you would be faster, as you have had your eye on a cute little number only a tp away :p. Then you find the cutest shoes on the way and rethink your whole look, while he stands at some landing point twiddling his thumbs, and playing WoW in the background.
Call for Couture has been a huge event, and it is drawing to a close next week sometime, argh so many things to still post on. First off Fishy Strawberry did this adorable babydoll, in a colour I love, it matches my rusted hair rose perfectly. Newish hair from Exile is so lovely, it got the colour blown right out of it in the further back pic, so just focus on the colour up front , or my cleavage, whatever works for you.
The second set comes from Nemesis, great corset skirt combo, the corset did have trim on one breast, but I opted for without, add a little black coat and this could totally power suit work it. New hair from Magika, OMG have you seen the incredible options in her hair now? not only do you get the style your buying, but the mirrored version as well, as in if the bangs go left you also get the version with them going right, AMAZING idea, and saves on having to release them that way in future releases at future expense…genius I tell you, and such a bargain. Also you have hair pack colours and streaks all in one hud, so you can mix and match to your hearts content. Then there is also colours for hair ties and accessories, and the chewing hair option comes with all now WOOHOO. One click on or off, so it is great fun for pics etc, or when you just have to chew and concentrate.
Lastly the all in one gown from Kouse’s Sanctum, this gown is lovely, and comes with the fabulous hair, I decided to wear not only the fabulous and also at Call for Couture Tiffany mask, as well as some Jewelry from Carolines Jewelry, who happens to be 7 years in SL now – Congratulations. The whole combo was so delightful that I decided to Halloween it up a little, with the help of Fiachra, I lost my head and that’s all folks.

Trips the lights fandango, or something like that
Kawabanga Baby – not sure if that is the correct spelling, but oh well. I am feeling so surfer girl today. Especially with my first picture. The weather down here cannot make up its mind, I am cold, but then overheating, it is a bit crazy. Speaking of crazy, how was yesterdays grid roll, seriously, I was trying to get some Megas from the SALT hud – most awesomest free tool – and none would come, then hours later I got sent everything in offlines lol. Way to lag!
I am so excited that there are six new gorgeous hairstyles from LeLutka today, one is Aradia 2.0 a sculpted take on the original straight style that was incredibly popular since Hair Fair 2008. That is the second style shown, the first is one of the new Swift styles, there are three of them in all, and I swear this style is going to look HOT on the male surfer types that have a penchant for all things 70’s. Think ‘That 70’s Show” if your too young to remember.
This one comes with the headband look, with texture options, my favourite being the denim. To work with the denim of Miseria’s new Delirium jeans release, I have missed releases from Miseria, so so glad she is back. Wearing again the Military coat from Aoharu, this coat has that soft weather worn look that is totally perfect for after you rode some waves at dawn, showered off the sand and are heading back home for breakfast.
I haven’t worn the Addictia thongs for a while, so this was as good an oppurtunity as I was going to get, so easy to use the hud etc, but I did use a different alpha base this time, the one that came with wasn’t doing it for me for some reason.
I am wearing the new Phoebe 2 skin by LAQ today, more pics to come with that later, but she is so lovely, all the LAQ skins have such delicasy to them, and I don’t mean you can eat them, mind you some days you just feel like noming maybe, with halloween coming up maybe steer clear of Zombies.
A little bit of Call for Couture with the second pic, the racerbacks by Addict, and the padded denim by Royal blue are both at Call for Couture, and there is still time left to go over and enjoy all the goodies. I am also wearing some leggings from Fishy Strawberry and Rotten Toe, which while is a creepy name, has some fabulous fashion.
Berries Inc just moments ago released the Frost scarf and she told me that it is freeeeezing her way, so this is definitely appropriate, really pretty too, with different versions per colour. Lastly the jewelry and glasses I am wearing are from Deco, these were at Jewelry fair, and I got way behind on posts for that, but can still be found in the Deco store, and both are just gorgeous. Everyone needs a strand of beads called Fandangle.

Fly with mee
Some incredibly talented Actors passed away this week, Mrs Cleaver and Mr Cunningham, that would probably be their better known roles. Leave it to Beaver wasn’t as big a show down here, but Happy Days growing up was everything, the shows younger characters were awesome, but my fondest moments are the parenting ones, Mr Cunningham and Richie after hours at the Hardware store, how Fonzie looked up to him even though he would play it so cool…and the famous to me Joanie and the peanut butter jar scene with her mum talking over boys.
I know they were just acting the written word, but you have to wonder if they knew how much they moved people. Anyways, they are admired from all over, and it makes me teary to think of them as passing. Onto other things, Whimsy Winx also won a speed building award this week, woot.
Anyway onto other things, these items are newness. The first being the Flight Jacket from DeLa. DeLa puts out the most gorgeous of coats, and this one is no different. A great length, stunning textures and gorgeous colours, it all works, and again for us down here in the in between weather, this could totally work.
The jeans and sweaters are from Fishy Strawberry, I love these sweaters, they come with long or shorter sleevelength, as well as longer sculpted length to the body of the sweater, and lastly the fab tank undershirt option. So many layers, and versions to choose from. The Jeans are unisexy, so your guy friends can shop too.
The skin I am wearing is Marina from Adam n Eve, and she is Fit. Beautiful make ups, and a great range of tones and extras, with hair bases, freckles and other things, DEMO DEMO DEMO. I am wearing the fabulous Typhoon boots from Paper Couture, if you do not have these yet, what are you waiting for, they are wicked, and I cannot wait to wear them again with skirts and dresses as well.
