Over 12 years ago it was a sunny day in Second Life at the island of Hinode Shima, and a Blonde Bombshell in miniature landed at the landing point with the biggest shoes, the tiniest skirt and an amazing personality. Her name was and still is Lexi Morgan and I found out many things about her and her time spent in Second Life as a Creator, Landlord and participator in many Charity driven events that day, and wanted to catch up again and see if things have changed and if so how.

This time we did not get to sit by the seaside on Japanese seats across from each other, time-zones did not permit this time around on my side, but I am fortunate enough that Lexi took the time to answer my questions and that I am lucky enough to be able to jump into her IM box at anytime to get any additional information I may need.

I wanted to not only catch up with her, but also have her share a little insight into creating in Second Life for as long as she has. Unfortunately my first interview of her was with Appearance Mode a now closed Blog that was one of the first in Second Life back then. Even though she leans more now towards makeup she has definitely added so much flavour to this world over the years.

With this trip down memory lane for me, and with it being Vintage Fair starting soon, I decided that this post would be an homage to some of the oldest creators in Second Life who are still very much creating and contributing to the beautification of the grid. Elikapeka of Elikatira who has been creating hair for us since earlier than I have been here and some of my greatest shopping experiences were at ETD in the olden days. Sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve who has always been an incredible creator with amazing skins and clothing of various styles for many years, has only recently gone into mesh in a bigger way and her style has just carried over very well. While Swirly Cyclone is a newer content creator as such she has been adding fabulousness to SL since the dawn of time, and if you do not know that, you better learn it. These shoes are just the perfect companion pieces to this whole look, and they come in an option of white or cream accents so that you can mix and match with ease.  The make up I am wearing is all Stellar by name and look, and the adorable little star beauty spot does it for me and then some.

Sasy:  It has been over 12 years now since I last interviewed you about your time in Second Life, you were a region/sim owner, a Creator and very proactive in the everyday occurrences of the grid. What are some of the biggest changes you have experienced personally of your time here ?

Lexi:  First let me say that I can’t believe it’s been 12 years since the last interview. I still remember that day like it was yesterday!
I think for me personally, the thing that completely changed my SL was mesh. As much as I am amazed and thankful that it’s here, it came at a time when my RL changed tremendously and I fell behind with learning it. I was in SL much less and couldn’t catch up. I did end up learning how to mesh over time, but then I fell in love with creating cosmetics.. which I’m obsessed with in the real world. It was a perfect fit for me but very different from creating clothes. It’s been an adjustment for myself and my customers, but a pleasant one.

Sasy: You not only had your own store that did incredible clothing, but you also rented space to many other content creators over the years. Do you miss sharing space with other content creators in that way ?

Lexi: Even though I do not have my own sim anymore, I’ve always managed to have my main store on sims where there are other creators so I don’t really miss that aspect too much. I just recently moved my main store to Lo Lo, which has quite a few amazing brands there. Such a lovely space to share with them.

Sasy: Events play a big part in the shopping experience had by many now, in past times that was all done either in Mainstores or Malls, do you think that there is still a place for malls in the SL community or have events removed that need?

Lexi: Being the OG that I am, I really do miss Malls and shopping in them. They were so big years ago and I remember being in over 30 of them at once lol. Events are great but I’m so old school that I prefer main store shopping and releases which is what I primarily do myself. With that said, I am currently in no events.. but now that I’m finding more time for SL I am looking to get into a few good ones. I’m not against them at all …I just love main store releases more.

Sasy: You do still create but with the introduction of mesh and the like you create differently than you did in the past, as a more experienced texture based creator, are you excited about Bake on Mesh and what that may mean for older and newer content alike ?

Lexi: I think any change like Bake on Mesh is a positive one for creators and shoppers alike. I’m looking forward to seeing how the community reacts to it.

Sasy: Do you plan on recreating some of your older creations now that system layer (bake on mesh) clothing can be used with mesh body parts ?

Lexi: Sadly, I did lose a lot of my texture based clothing in a hard drive crash years ago but if i’m able to recreate or find some of the more popular items that i’ve made I am all for it! But like I said above, I think it will all be based on how the community reacts to it.

Sasy: Over the years we have all seen some great collaborations between creators, if you had a choice of any SL creator older (even if no longer active) or current to collaborate with on an item, who would it be, and what would you want to do with them ?

Lexi: Oh wow.. I don’t even know where to start with this question lol. SO many amazing creators these days. I have collaborated with creator friends a lot in the past so I would probably go that route again.
Too many names pop into my head to name one in specific. I’m up for anything.

Sasy: If you could be a Linden for a Day, someone that could actually make a proper change to Second Life, what would you do with that power ?

Lexi: I think you probably know me well enough to know this about me already, but I truly enjoy helping people. I would help every new member in any way that I could by answering questions, buying them clothing, hair, shoes, skins, mesh body parts, makeup etc. Help them make an avatar that they love and explain how everything works. I’d help them so that they’d want to stay here and grow to love it as I have.

Sasy: As a content creator and SL resident for 15 years now, what advice would you give any newer resident that may want to start creating, and anything that you wish you had known early on that you learned along the way that you think really made a big change to how you did things ?

Lexi: Oh my …15 years! Thats a longggg time haha
One thing that I always tell my creator friends that come to me for advice (and every last one will vouch for this) : NEVER give up. If you love creating and enjoy your products.. keep at it. If something doesn’t sell like you had expected it to, it’s ok! Don’t get discouraged. It happens to all of us. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It takes time to develop a brand name that people will recognize. But frequent releases are a MUST. I 100% do believe that. If you’re not doing at least that, you’re not helping yourself as much as you could.

I have been playing catch up with releases from all over the place, some paired up with older items. I ran over to Blueberry today and grabbed the Jeanette set as soon as I saw the thigh high sneakers, they come in a multitude of colours as well as floral prints, and there is a knee high and thigh high version. The set also comes with a hoodie style dress (not shown) and was at a great price for everything, so run over and grab. I love the boots so much and even though I did crop dramatically in the picture, I can see myself featuring them properly again.

The short shorts and the short overalls are must haves for those that like to show a bit of leg, and the shorts were part of a major collaboration release with Addams, that has fishnet stockings that sit under, there are combat boots and socks that I am wearing and a shirt and jacket, all bits and pieces that you can incorporate into your wardrobe. I actually paired up the shorts with an older release top, so cool and country damsel looking, and then the bikini top I am wearing fit perfectly under the overalls, so it is great to have pieces that do that, the tube top from Mimikri I featured the other day also fit snugly under, which is great when you can mix mesh across brands.

I am all about the vox colour denim in blueberry’s denim range, I do fatpack still like I did with the overalls because one never knows when you will need a trillionty colours of overalls to choose from, but the vox is my favourite in its dark denim awesomeness. All this denim needed some chunky jewellery and the perfect pieces were by Zaara, she does not make jewellery often enough, and I say that every time I wear it.

The hair by Tableau Vivant is very fun, made with a very sexy mask and has a great styling HUD for in front of shoulders left and right and behind, so that works for many different looks. I like those kinds of options because even without taking pictures we all know that hair does not stay still and it can be flipped all over the place in a matter of minutes depending on what you are doing at the time.

The LeLutka Powder Pack just hit and the lipsticks worn in the pictures are by Pink Fuel and they come in four sizes of lip covering which works great with different looks and heads available. Stunning colours and so glossy, make sure if you did not get the pack in advance you check it out.

A few weeks ago Mimikri had a sale, I had somehow convinced myself that I had most of the store, wow was I mistaken. In the past Mimikri was only available as single purchases, but as of late they have added fatpack options which is a great thing. I went through four or five rooms – I cannot remember really as I am still getting over it – and by the time I was done I had to go and lay down. This is when Whimsy just laughs at me, but this was no small feat and today I actually looked at the purchases and there were so many I had to scroll, my screen is huge, my inventory is full screen, scrolling in recents for one brand is a big deal. So worth it, best sale ever on catching up.

Since there have been some beautiful new releases, but at the moment I am going with some of my favourites from the store. If you saw me on the new Bellisseria regions anytime over the first few days, you would have seen me in the Darling Tulle dress, this sheer dress is just everything, not only does it include an add on panel for the skirt to be less sheer it comes with full on knickers – she calls them panties but these are just so much cooler to call knickers. I would just run around in them, and believe me I got all the colours with all the dresses so I plan on doing so – with a top of course, I haven’t completely changed my ways.

Everything at Mimikri is so girly I love it, and then add on to that the fabulous footwear from Breathe and you have a girlapalooza going on. Each style of shoes from Breathe really enhanced the overall look of the outfit.

With these divine Feng Su heels in the blue, those have the option of polka dot or not in the ankle bows and how 80’s am I right now, and believe me I know my 80’s especially for party looks like this one, my friend had this same dress in fuschia for our high school formal (prom). The laced up to high thigh shoes are just fabulous from the look of them to the looking at them and how detailed they are. Then you have the platform wedge strap style that with the outfit combination of different pieces from Mimikri are just ready to get your groove on possible. I liked being able to change the metal studding to silver on them so that they gave a nod to the eyelets in silver on the waist corset belt.

I went with the Brianna hair by Mina, this style while girly and cutesie worked in all types of situations, the length made it perfect for items that had sheerness to them so that there was no alpha conflict, and the hair is just that perfect must have of mid length style.

Finishing it all off with accessories by LaGyo and some angelic Bento wings by Blueberry to make it all just perfect. The wings come in bento or non bento options and the full range of colours available, it is so wonderful having wings that move as naturally as these do.

With all the feature options Mutresse as a great go to creator, with the ability to almost completely change the look of items with the texture change huds included with all items, you have the ability to make solid, contrast and sometimes even patterned looks with the one purchase. The faces of most items are often broken down far more than the basic top and bottom, and the metals are usually enough variation to really finish off a look. With jewellery having the options to metal change in your clothing, can often lead to a great combination.

Eeky of Mutresse also likes to push the envelope in enhancing her range, and her latest undress options are an animation and clothing marvel. Now you know better than to think that you were suddenly going to see me flashing you, but I will link to the videos of these fun products. I am wearing the bra in one of my pictures. The tank top is a lot of fun, kind of like a Mardi Gras beads getting kind of flashing rather than a taking your bra and underpants off, you can see them in actions HERE & HERE but be sure to come back for the rest of my post ok .

I liked to imagine that my looks today were of a girl that is some kind of super hero vigilante type of girl. Those boots and panties with the bra definitely had me feeling mighty enough to take on some hooligans. I could distract the bad guys with my awesomely stylish self. It was very possible to feel that way with the great background set by Ninety that is all concrete, pipes and roller doors.

The hair that I am wearing is by Exile and Alessa is a stunner of length and with the styling HUD you can behind shoulders or both sides front or left and right and that just makes hairstyles that much sexier when you have that kind of range. The accessories are by Mandala, and the opulence of them against the urban setting, just had me feeling like my by day persona was a bit of a socialite with a nice Black Amex.

RKKN is a brand to keep your eye on, they started out as pose creators, did some collaborations with some great stores like Nutmeg and Entwined, and now their Male and Female clothing brand has just grown in such a huge way. I have posted on them before, when I fell in love with their biker jacket, but their line of clothing has just amassed some great must have pieces.

I played their gacha at this current round of Epiphany, and the items are amazing. Then in the store I picked up a few bits and pieces, some great casual dressy items. The newish colour block sneakers are a must have for sneaker enthusiasts as they have the option to change every part colour wise and come up with some wonderful combinations. The colour palette is their own so it makes dressing together simple.

The middle picture shows the latest release pants and shirt that are at Anthem event, they are on the upper level and the event itself is fantastic, chock loaded full of delights, such as the spiral staircase building I am taking my pics in by Soy.

I have been rocking this hairstyle for the past few days, it is a new to me store, they signed up for Hair Fair and I just could not resist it. The texture work is fantastic and you will need your own hairbase. I am wearing one from Lelutka that is the rosamund middle parted hairbase.

The gacha items all included sizes from different bodies, Slink Hourglass which I wear, Maitreya and Belleza Freya, so you get all three, if you wear more than one body, this is your dream gacha.

The other day I was sitting in SLBloggerati Group chat and Leia Cale of Leia’s Second Life blog got all excited about Fantasy Faire. One of her favourite events of the year, and I remembered seeing her equally excited in years previously. I thought about that for a moment, about how showing an event through the eyes of another is what we do with blogging, but what if a blogger showed you the event from the passion of another, not only encouraging me to see it with anticipation because of someone else’s joy, but also because it turns it into a shared experience.

We spend a lot of time solo in Second Life, and to be able to grab onto something and be able to say ” I saw that too’ or “I didn’t notice that I have to go back now” it is something that I myself as a blogger want to encourage. I like doing posts on events when I can, sharing information on the destination itself, the effort that went into it, and how groups of people come together with a joint purpose.

Fantasy Faire is an annual event, part of the Relay for Life chain running through the Second Life year. It started on the 18th of April and will finish on the 5th of May. All donations made via purchasing event items, donations made in kiosks go to Relay for Life, so far in the years they have run this event they have raised up to 290,000 USD that is an amazing achievement by everyone involved. You can find press release information on their website as well as totals, information on all participants and sim sponsors.

There are 16 sims this year and each sim is an exploratory wonderland. I asked Leia a few questions about her experience with the event.

A lot of things have been going on since 2018. I stopped using social media, which made me pay more attention to Second Life inside of Second Life, or on platforms created specifically for it. I have been looking at more blogs, ones that cover more than fashion. I have also been spending a bit of time each day or two in the Second Life forums, and that can take some navigating, but you can end up learning more than usual on what is coming along the Linden Lab pipeline.

That was how a month or so ago I learned of the new Linden Homes and went to have a look. Nothing in the preview could have really tapped into what was to come. The homes were on display sure, and there were roads, and I did believe it would be nice to congregate in the streets. I saw the houseboats, thought they were nice, loved how you could change the settings on blinds and so on, but again nothing could really prepare us for what was ahead.

This was what you landed at, the previews were tied into the Home and Garden Expo, which I thought was a marvelous move, as people could literally stumble across them. I also found the sign and the car very humorous, if you are a Back to the Future fan, you would have also.

Then it happened, they went live, the first I heard was a mix of both the Second Life Forums – they have made a category just for Linden Homes which has filled up with many posts already and you will find some amazing pictures, discussions and helpful tips  – which I strongly recommend more people start using – and the blog of the very helpful Daniel Voyager. I have visited his blog many times over the years but just recently started following it properly to get notifications on posts, and Daniel is very in touch with what is going on with Second Life.

Now myself personally am unable to Linden Homes at this time, because my land tier is allocated to a larger parcel with my partner Mel Vanbeeck, so I am living vicariously through the girls. Gogo got hers up first, and just recently sold her own sims and went premium, something she had not done before. Then Whimsy also never a premium in the past, joined up and grabbed hers. Ashia who like me has been a premium since joining has not gotten a place to call home at this time, because unexpectedly the homes were pretty much all gone within the first 24 hours, and being in different time zones, this had a big impact on who could get what and when.

The Houseboats went fast. Ocean views, jetties and parkland backyards made these a must have for many.

They come in various styles, and everything is controllable. Important though is that the walkways and end of piers are not part of your individual parcel, so if someone like me comes along and wants to ‘respectfully’ enjoy just chilling on the dock, it is possible.

The first day we visited Gogo – you can see her own post on her experiences and even some predictions of the land future at JuicyBomb –  she has also created a Flickr Group for people to post their own Linden Homes Photos.  When she logged out we continued to explore the regions, again not really prepared for not only how expansive the area is, but how incredibly thought out it all is. We took a stroll and bike ride, met some neighbours and just fell in awe of the whole thing. The sim crossings were almost painless, it took crossing at least four before I had any lag.

There are hills and valleys, bridges over large streams and rock formations that personally I am in love with. I found a rock clump on the side of the road and declared it to be our rock, that I was going to call all to join us each day and we would know to meet up at our rock. Then the next day Whimsy got her home, and of course in true Whimsy fashion, not everything went according to plan. You can see her trials and tribulations at her blog Virtually Dressed. She has been exploring like crazy, and found not only Apple Falls open house, which shows you how much can be done with the size and prims allowed, but is also just such a novel approach to the usage of the homes.

In the forums you will find people sharing pictures of the mods they have done as mentioned but also a few that have gone above and beyond, turning their homes into miniature destinations. A true sense of community with cafes and library dwellings and today we even came across a home that has seen better days, and may or may not come down in price due to a murder, yes I did say murder.

I have not included links to specific homes, because the finding them is part of the fun, and also if tomorrow they pull it up and just want to live privately in their home, me linking to there may be an issue.

One of the most important things about this new community is the respect that will be needed  for each others privacy. While grabbing some pictures of random homes and gardens is nice, no one should be camming inside or even attempting to enter land that does not have a noticeable invitation – such as the Apple Fall Open House sign.

Whimsy and I spent a fair amount of time riding our bikes around today, and yesterday we met such a lovely lady that we ended up taking her shopping with us. I love the idea of meeting new and interesting people this way, whether like me and visiting the areas or actual home owners, but this is very much a community space and I think that whether you have a home now or not, or if you are premium or not, these spaces are going to change the way we spend our time here.

The outdoors are just marvelous, there is just no way to not enjoy the walking, talking, running, riding, driving or horse riding options you have. My bike is an attachment that works with the inbuilt AO, so there was no need for me to find a place to rez it. I have seen people flying helicopters, hovercraft’s and a fair few boats. Whimsy even saw a car crash earlier yesterday, which just tickled her no end, she offered to be a witness if it goes to virtual court.

I took a time out from running around beside Whimsy and got some of my calm back with a nice trip over to the lighthouse area, and did some yoga on the rocks. I cannot tell you any more earnestly how much I love the rocks.

They are just peaceful in and of themselves and Whimsy’s home has one clump right behind her back fence, so I told her she can keep on living there, but I am going to just chill back there on the public space on the rocks.

After some yoga and getting myself all centred again, I meandered back over to the shoreline and took advantage of another public space. This time a clump of nautical themed pieces and some picnic tables.

Now the other day Whimsy, Gogo, Ashia and I were using one of the public pool spaces – honestly these moles thought of everything – and Gogo and I were chatting and she was guessing at who some of the creators were, now I piped in with Sway’s and then today when I landed in my boat seat, I realised that the items on the table were in fact the first thing I have seen so far with an actual creators name, not just one of the moles, so Gogo I win in the guessing game.

The Linden Homes come with their own assets folder, which is marvelous, so those that are adding on porches and garages are able to use those textures to make sure everything is matchy matchy. The houses can be changed to a different style via the letter box out front. There are so many other things included, that make it much easier to adapt your space, there is great fencing included, and there are plans to include a security orb for use by owners.

You can set your linden home to a group so that your group has access and the ability to rez items if needed, so you could have a little club house or vacation home for friends. The biggest query by many was the ability to build in the sky, if you did not want to use the linden home itself. You can rez skybox homes, as long as they fit your parcel only and as long as they are over 2000 metres in the air, they are not to encroach on anyone else’s property.

The plots are 1024 as that is the tier base for Premium members, and if you are a Premium member this is an inclusive with your membership product. While the homes are currently all allocated, you can keep trying to get one, and more are opening up as soon as possible, they are just doing it in shifts, so that anything that comes up that needs managing can be fixed and not cause an issue in the next grouping.

Premium Membership is available monthly, quarterly or yearly. Yearly is the best option as with the stipend and land allocation included you end up ahead cost wise. Just to be clear, you are allowed 1024 land as a premium member in the Linden Homes regions or any mainland region if you want to just purchase your own parcel, you do not have to have a Linden home if Premium. The main advantage of a Linden Home is that the home itself prims wise does not count towards your prim usage on that parcel. So if you have a Linden home you will have more decorating prims available than if you had a vacant plot and had to use prims to rez a house first.

When things settle down and more homes are available, you can grab a home and if you do not like the location or the surrounds for some reason, you can abandon and try again up to 5 times a day. Many jumped on this because of that option, but with all homes currently taken, there is no ability to find another unless you seriously luck out, so if you have one you do not like currently, hold onto it until you can be sure there is something else to jump to.

If you see me strolling or riding around Bellisseria, just know that I am not scoping out your home for nefarious reasons, I just want to enjoy the surroundings, and maybe one day I might be your neighbour. I will always be respectful of your space, but I do hope that others like me, will truly embrace what the Lindens have created here for all residents, this is not a gated community, this is the new suburbia of Second Life, and I am all in…maybe someone will start walking tours.

LeLutka is about to hit the grid with some new faces, some character to your new years, and some beautiful skins provided by Glam Affair. You can also buy the namesake skins by Glam Affair with brow options, freckles and contour options, and with the addition of the new face layer, using rerouting on the head huds you can use both if that is how you want to roll.

New styles with more ability to push your sliders further, the structure of the faces may differ when trying demos from what you are used to. There are shapes included that you can use as a starting point if needed, or just tweak your own, if your shape needs tweaking at all, it will depend on what you have done previously.

Vera, Piper and Aida are their names, and they are just lovely, I was able to achieve different looks for each, so I am yet undecided on which I will wear more.  If you haven’t tried on LeLutka heads in a while, they had a very large update recently, more layers new hud layout, some added moods and great scripting enhancements. The tinting section got a facelift too, so make sure you go back and have a play, or if you have a Lelutka head already make sure you update. just wear it and it will automatically go out to you, or just click for a redelivery on the settings page.

Just to point out it is also ready for baked on mesh, so when that goes officially live you can transition with the click of a button. Also the rerouting option has been moved from settings tab to essentials to make that quicker. Did I also mention longer lashes…I did, just then 🙂 and the face layer lets you now freckle and blush or whatever you needed more layers for, they extended the brow layer to encompass the face so for those that use skins with brows already, you have more wiggle room for other things.

My hairstyles are all by Tableau Vivant, I went shopping over there tonight, easier to know what is what when in the store looking at it all up and personal, even just a quick way of checking against your inventory. Nice to visit stores anyway, good to keep up with what they are doing even if you usually only get their items at events.

The skins are the purchased version, as I wanted to mix up the brow colours for the shoot, the purchased version also has no brows as I mentioned but wanted to reiterate, as the skins that come with the heads have brows included, but are such a great starting off point and I am really liking very much the new skins for these heads.

All the clothing is by Coco, I love their style and it really suited the looks of these heads.

I have been a little quiet since Hair Fair, but hopefully back in fighting form. I have been using the feature I am sharing with you now since it was released, and it is honestly one of the best options of use we have for making life incredibly easy on the go.

Hair Fair closes in a few hours at Midnight and traditionally that makes today Bandana Day where we wear bandanas to show support for those that have lost their hair or parts of their hair. Hair Fair donates a percentage of all purchases made to Wigs for Kids and the bandanas are a big part of that, with 100% of all purchases going to the charity and they are 50L each (Hair Fair Hares are 100L)  and they are created by people from all over SL not only the Hair Creators participating.

Bandana day is a great tradition and many wear them and have parties and the like, they are transferable so you can buy a bunch and share them amongst your friends. I hope that everyone has enjoyed Hair Fair this year I know I have, and I look forward to seeing you all again next year :).
