Mindful – Nightshade 2024
Sometimes at the end of a ghoulish day, you have to decompose…I mean decompress. Even Monsters have to take some me time, and I am doing just that, with some rosewater dipped roses on my eyes – it stings like fire but that is how I roll – A nice aperitif before dinner , a bit of wolfsbane mixed with cucumber water, hits the spot, can’t drink blood all the time you know, it gets boring. Now not so new to some of you, is that I took some pieces of furniture from Nightshade event, and made them bigger, oh so much bugger, the awesome prints behind me are wall art, with wooden frames, and look lovely regular sized as a three piece set – hung separately. But when enlarged they look fabulous. Thankfully they are not flammable, I threw some stuff The Mummy gave me on them, and now they take all kinds of spills and can sit close to flames, very potent stuff – if I tell my Mummy that I just used Mummy in a blog post and was not meaning her, but something wrapped up in cloth she is going to be jealous, but she is awesome, I send her pics of my pics all the time, she is not such a fan of the ones were I look scary though.
The Candles are superb work, they come in a huge array of options, small clumps, single sets, larger clumps etc, and they are also mod, so you can resize as needed. They are HUD controlled with 16 colours to choose from and each of them are gorgeous, they are PBR but also have Blinn Phong textures baked in, so you are covered either way. The large crystal ball behind them is also a Nightshade decor item, they come in various colours and again mod, so you can make them smaller for a side table or large as a statement piece. I so love MOD items.Funnily enough the swing chair I am sitting in comes nothing like this, it was the perfect sit and pose for what I was wearing and holding, but the texture of it was very colourful and did not suit, but not only was it mod, it was such a great texture uv that I was able to just throw on an old leather texture I had in my inventory and change the repeats, and it worked out perfectly, thanks FoxCity for also making your props mod. This whole look actually came about because of the slippers, they were just so cute, and again the idea of a Monster like person, just living their best SLives needed me to just hang and chill for the evening. The particles you see about me, are so awesome also, they have these scary hands that come up out of the mist, I almost spilled my drink. The Soul Reaper set is actually an update to an existing set by Coles Corner, they have updated it to deal with the rather different lighting we have now with PBR, so if you already have it you can just redeliver, and if you don’t it is awesome.
I keep poking fun at people when I see big spiders, alluding to the fact that it must be an Australian item etc. It is not as scary as many make out down here, I see so much said on the internet that makes me wonder where exactly these people think we live. Because I personally saw more wild animals just out and about when I was in the U.S than I have ever seen in Australia. So when I saw this dress at Nightshade, I knew it was the one for me to again have a stab at the silly, but with some tongue. The teeth also ended up a theme, with these crazy stitches and teeth tattoos, not just tattoo layers but materials assigned for different bodies by applier, it is wild, they are so freaky, I decided that I must be some kind of Ghoulish Dental Nurse off duty. Nightshade is full of fun and exciting items to play with, so make sure you check it out before it ends on the 28th of October 2024.

Biding My Time – Nightshade 2024
It’s always a joy to feel inspired when planning a blog. These Thorn Vines by Botanical at this year’s Nightshade event had me thinking of all sorts of ways to use them (making prop work and decorating a breeze, many options to choose from and MOD) , then remembering that I had picked up this Spectre outfit from FLF-Ween by Fashionably Dead that fit perfectly with the theme was such a bonus – the strapping at my wrists is actually the headpiece of the outfit, which looks awesome in front of the face etc, but I did not want to block my makeup.
So many of the Nightshade items are incredibly well thought out, and one that really stood out to me was these Planterra quills by Ichor. I have them poking out of my arms, legs, and spine – they honestly don’t hurt! They’ve been brilliantly designed, and I’ll explain why…(Side note: I don’t know why more people don’t use this feature!) They’ve made it so that the parts that stick out of your body are using the Second Life UV. This means that when you wear your skin, no matter what kind it is, those parts of the quills will match your exact skin shade because it’s your skin being applied using bakes on mesh. The quills themselves have their own unique texture, and this product goes even further by including the UVs for the quills, so you can make your own textures if you want, as they’re modifiable. What a win-win product!
I picked up these Mortis tone skins by Lumae at a hunt event, but with the option to buy the skin packs for 50L not just for the faces, but the full bodies as well, I went the easy route – I just wanted to wear a fun skin that fit the vibe, and it worked so well with these Nuve Runny Mascara and Lipstick in a great black. The pale green of the skin created the perfect backdrop for fun makeup. I used the fun Rave’n Dance poses inspired by the Wednesday Addams Dance, and this pose worked perfectly for the shot.

Nightshade – an Annual event – is now open to the public and if you like all things dark and demonic, then you are going to really enjoy this event. You can find the shopping guide here. All exclusives are discounted by a minimum of 15% during the event.
This dress by Petrichor & Ersch for Nightshade is available in different fabric types and a wide range of colours, but the black latex look was my obvious choice, and it also has chains and leg straps that are controlled via HUD, which I turned off, so that you could see it in other ways than shown in the advertisement. The long leggedness of the design also made it possible to show off these divine shoes by Breathe, that are mule style pumps that are gorgeous to have. A great mule works in so many styling types, and having no straps at the ankles or back of the shoe to fiddle with, means that they go with a lot more clothing choices. I also like that with Breathe shoes you have a sole colour option to sneak in a bit more red.We are definitely used to by now, seeing me in green eyes, but occasionally I will go the route of a different look, and these eyes – also at Nightshade – come in a range of soft colours with an almost pool like look to them, all very mystical in my opinion, and this silvery look was calling my name. I couldn’t get them to sit right so I had to slice up my face…just kidding, but how cool are these gift tattoo stitches I found at FLF-Ween. I did a head swap to Snow Rabbit, as they were only available in Evox but it is such a lovely head, and with the stitches so cute – cute is not the right word for such a look, but you get me. As we also know, I am very fond of a great hair accessory, and this one by AngelicUS at Nightshade is awesome, it comes in a range of colours and is mod, so you can resize it as needed, I knew as soon as I saw it that this Monso hair was going to go perfectly as it has that stylised twist back that lends itself to this kind of hairstick look. Some layering fun with eyeshadows by AlaskaMetro and I am ready to do demonic things!

Friend of Mine
So many things can inspire a blog post idea, and today, it happened while I was already fully dressed. As I scrolled through my VR Studio poses, I landed on this full-length one by Loel, and it made me think, “I need a companion.” So, I searched my inventory for Jian and brought out this beauty of a pup. He’s a past Gacha item, and absolutely adorable. I was never one to go wild with Gacha – I’d look at a collection, decide I liked it as a whole (no specific item more important than another), pull once or twice, and move on. Hilariously, this often resulted in me getting rares, which always felt wasted on me.
Linden Lab made a big announcement – one no one really saw coming – that Gachas could return (as if they ever really left; people found a workaround so fast your head could spin). But now, they’re under new rules: if you want to use the old secret spin method, the items have to be no-transfer. I personally don’t get this decision. Why would anyone want a mystery item they can’t do anything with if they win it? It kind of defeats the whole point of Gacha – sharing, trading, and having fun. If I want a no-transfer item, it’s because I’m picking exactly what I want myself. According to the TOS, though, we can still use the newer system, where items are transfer but you know what you’re picking. It’s as confusing to think about as it is to explain.
As I’ve said many times… HAT HAIR! makes me happy. This one was a recent Uber celebration gift from Tram, and I’m obsessed. The cap is gorgeous, and the delicate Tram logo on the side makes it so stylish. The short, blunt cut in this pastel colour is perfection. I expect the style might be available in the store at some point, possibly as a full-purchase item, as the gift was in pastels only. Definitely a must-have if you don’t already own it.
Fashionably Dead released these jeans for C88, and they come with chain embellishments that can be toggled off via the HUD. They’re cute worn either way, and while I’m not usually the ‘jeans open at the front’ type, these are done in a way that just implies I had a big lunch. I grabbed this top from Erratic a while ago but hadn’t had a chance to wear it yet. As soon as these jeans went on, I knew the top was coming up for air. I love this style, especially how well the tank fits across the shoulders.
Now, I’m ready to take my pup for a walk – maybe help some of that lunch settle so I can get these jeans closed again. Who knew virtual food could cause such wardrobe issues?

Vamping
Australians didn’t really ‘do’ Halloween. I’m sure I say this every year, but it’s true. We try – it’s kind of funny that, in recent years, decorations and attempts at the concept have started filling our bigger department stores – but it’s still nothing like what happens in the U.S. There are some parties, mostly adults dressing up, but even costume hire places are rare. It ends up being a lot of school girls and guys in Hawaiian shirts – at least, that’s how it was in the ’90s. I remember living in a new area once, and three kids knocked on my door. I was so shocked and unprepared that I gave them money! Luckily, they were the only kids doing it that night, so my bank balance survived. I am sure that there are probably more kid parties now that there are decorations and so on available, this is just my personal experience growing up and so on.
In Second Life, though, costumes are everywhere. I’ve done a few over the years, but today I wanted something more realistic – a look for a Vampire just going about her evening. And here it is: a more casual ‘vamping’ look.
The whole thing started with the tights. If you don’t know already, Alaska Metropolitan of AlaskaMetro moved a lot of her older content to an Outlet Marketplace page a few months back. It’s a huge effort – changing permissions, passing things over, repacking – but so worth it. Everything is 10L per item, which is a steal! There are so many beautiful items, and these tights are a fun find. I grabbed them in all the available colours.
Izzie Button of Izzie’s recently released some Vampire bites and Werewolf bites – seriously, the detailing is incredible! There’s even a lighter version for a more worn-in look. The bite marks on my neck are perfect, and there are options for all parts of the body. So creepy, so good. I paired them with makeup and brows by Nuve for a fun and fabulous look. I like to imagine the eyebrow slit/scar happened when I tried to fight off the first Vampire that bit me. Since the injury happened before I was turned, I’ve still got it – TV logic, right?
The latest C88 release by Exile includes a hair option you can wear as a single colour or a duo split down the middle. This combo is my two most-used colours, so it’s perfect for me. I’ve also got on a snuggly sweater by Fashionably Dead, which is funny because I kind of am fashionably dead. Vampires are cold to the touch, after all, so I wanted something cosy between me and my future friends/victims. The bag was actually made for a different body – SLink – but it fits Reborn perfectly with the fluffiness of the sweater. Mutresse always delivers, with customisable options and different ways to hold it (hand hold, shoulder hold, etc.). The shorts are by Cynful, and you can customise the frayed edges and even contrast them with other colours in your chosen pack.
I often mention ‘Bloggers Fate’ in my posts, while looking up if I have ever named a post in the past ‘Vamping’, I realised that the only other time I have posted with Vamp in the heading, I was also wearing Exile Hair. I enjoy those happy coincidences.

You should be so Lucky – Past Literature Bloggers Challenge Revived
Time flies, it has been 15 years since this Bloggers Challenge occurred, and I have wanted to revisit it many times over the years, and today I was inspired by a few things to do so. Teagan Blackthorne originally set this challenge, it was a ‘Characters from Literature Challenge’, and of course I went in the – some might think – complete other direction. While many were doing Classics looks, I went with the great Lucky Santangelo a character created by Jackie Collins and I still to this day love her so much. My original post is HERE . One thing that was funny to me, was realising that in that original post I was featuring Dark Mouse jewellery, and I have been wearing these earrings also by Dark Mouse in so many posts since getting them, they are definitely my go to earrings for all time wear, I love the texture work on them and big hoops are just perfect. Lucky was very much into white in the books, and with long wild black hair, so that was an easy to achieve look. She also got down to business in terms of being a very professional business Woman, and I just loved the whole idea of dressing as Lucky again, she is FIERCE! I am not saying anyone has to do this challenge, but if you wanted to, especially the oldbies like me that want to give it a whirl again because they did it way back when…that would be awesome, love to see them, comment below if you do.
The reason I did the word play this way, is because I am often nagged by Gogo to delete my inventory, she thinks that my inventory count is too high and should be abolished, good luck with that. It is because of my inventory, and that I don’t get rid of things, that looks like this are easier for me. It sometimes means that the items are not so easily available to everyone, because the content may no longer exist, but as I have said in the past, there is not always the expectation that you are going to run out and get everything I showcase anyway, but it could inspire you to mix things you already have, with things you may like from what I do show.
Very available though is this Mock Neck sweater by Lamb, another clothing release available at the TSS – Party Extravaganza that is currently on. I am loving the style that Lamb is showing through her releases, and this skivvy is perfect for my Lucky look, with an abundance of colours to choose from and a fantastic white. Then pairing it with the fabulous pants by COCO also not news to anyone that I am a COCO fan, and especially their pants. These are giving me all the joy of the wide legged look, with the extra long folded up cuffs, which is just too much fun for me, being tall I have never had to roll up pants (unless trying to wade through water). These were a fatpack must have for me, and then of course they came in another perfect white, they were made to be together in my Lucky look.
The fabulous hair by Monso, made it todays moment, I was wearing the sweater, put on the hair and said NOW IS THE MOMENT! and I am so glad I did. The hair comes with options of either pulled back over the shoulders like this, or forward of them. As mentioned many times, if you give me a behind shoulders option, I will usually go for it. Also with this being a character that was created in the 80’s I thought that my heavier brows were not going to work so well, so off came Nuve Noah brows and on came Nuve Ophelia eyebrows, they are plucked and shaped to perfection, suited very well to the times. Some fabulous liner, and a deep lipstick that was created with the release of the Emma skin also by Nuve, all worn with the Genus Morph head.
Now where the older comes in…I needed a clutch, but more like the kind that you could keep documents in, perhaps a tablet, and definitely a phone. Along with any other incidentals needed to look amazing and conduct business. This Envelope clutch is by Mon Tissu, a collaboration brand by the creators of Tres Blah and Surf Co. (previously Sand Shack Surf – depends how old you are). They stopped creating for Mon Tissu a while ago now, but Emma Gilmour is back and creating for an upcoming rebrand of her Surf Co. type of style with Mellow Elie, so stay tuned for that. The clutch was made by Juliette though under the Anouk Spot avatar, and it still holds up so well today, that I had to use it. Also an older item is this gold and rather large diamond ring by Yummy, just worn on the ring finger, this is older than bento, but singular rings can be still used as long as attached to the ring finger attachment point. This was just very Lucky, not a lot of bits and pieces just simple pieces that were classics but also very expensive, she had swagger.
Another older item, and a bit of a secret under my pants, is that I often replace my body feet with my Slink feet, and then I have way more shoes to choose from, my inventory is full of goodies, with pants and alpha layers, it does not really matter to me if the ankles line up, because you don’t see the legs at all because they are hidden, so the only part you see is feet and shoes. That way I get to wear my favourite feet, with the shoes I want to wear. I could of course have found shoes that fit the body, but again, this is me, doing me, or should I say, me doing me, doing Lucky Santangelo.

All the Charm
Nuve has recently updated their Rhea Body skins, and as I’ve mentioned before, I prefer wearing a complete skin from one brand, head to toe, when possible. It just feels more realistic, and these bodies are simply gorgeous. The update has enhanced an already beautiful product, and I really hope you take a close look if you haven’t yet.
Nuve also released the stunning Joan skin and the luscious Dollie eyelashes. The lashes come with six upper styles, each offering an additional three lower lash variations – it’s a very robust package. I’m still obsessed with the Noah eyebrows, which I wear more than any others. They look amazing, especially in black. Paired with this beautiful new hairstyle by Ade, featuring soft waves and delicate pins (which you can toggle on or off for either side) in both metal and pearl options via the HUD, it’s incredibly flattering. Although I usually go for the hair behind the shoulders option when available on HUD’s (and this has that and more) , this soft wave at the front was perfect, adding just enough flair while keeping the neckline and ears free to show off my new earrings from Sparkle Skye.
The earrings are exquisitely detailed, with delicate chainwork, beads, and dangling gems, all HUD-controlled in either a dark or light pack. I’m wearing the light pack, and they are so pretty. I’m looking forward to seeing more accessories like these from Sparkle Skye in the future.
With such a feminine look coming together, I couldn’t resist adding some frills with the gorgeous Southern Charm top by Fashionably Dead, which has a lovely old west saloon girl vibe. The detailing on this top is stunning, with beautiful stitchwork, fabric choice, ribbing, and frills. You can style it in different ways, but I opted for panties in a matching colour to highlight these boots by Breathe, which did not disappoint. They feature a wild horseshoe-shaped metal piece at the back, and the little stockings poking out match the top perfectly.
This whole look was such a joy to put together, and I hope you have just as much fun imagining what you can create with these pieces too!

Second Life – Features – Inventory Search Functions
I want to start doing more videos, tutorials that feature as much as I can about the tools provided in the Second Life viewers to make our lives easier. Some you will already be aware of, some may be new to you, some you may not have thought of using together with others. I have done a few other videos in the past, but I want to try and do more. I hope you get something out of them. It is often hard to just go straight into them, I tend to either talk too fast and too much, or I stumble over myself. Hopefully with more practice they will get better. This specific one is about something that has come up a few times in random conversations, that I also replied to in a canny post when someone was requesting these kinds of features not realising they already exist, and I brought it up at the most recent content creators weekly meeting with the Lindens early yesterday. You should give that a watch, as they are now live recording them, and they are very helpful if you are unable to attend yourself.
If you have any questions about my videos please feel free to comment in either the video posting on youtube, or in this post here.
I did mention that the items I was wearing, were new clothing items by Lamb, they are not only a fantastic fit for bodies, and the texture work is fantastic, but the shorts are Modify, and including a decal option, meant that it was an invitation to personalise them yourself. This is such a fun idea, as you can do things with friends, a group or club you may be part of that has an insignia, or just be silly like myself, and create something that just made me chuckle when I thought of it. I love the versatility of not just the shorts, but the top style itself, I have been wearing it with other items of clothing, such as dress pants and skirts, and it is just fabulous. I look so forward to more clothing from Lamb in future, just as long as she does not stop creating hair, I am greedy, I want her to do both, some collections of styles that work with clothing will be amazing, as inbuilt hair has been done in the past a few times, but not as often by actual hair creators themselves. I am excited. I am also overjoyed at the Modify permissions, because sometimes you just need to rename something, or link things together to free up some attachment points, or you may just want to throw in a script so that nothing is going to remove that item. I do hope that Lamb considers making all clothing items mod, whether decals or not, as it just makes for ease of use.

In the Navy
A few weeks ago, I had a bodysuit all set up for an outfit, and as I added layers, one of the planned items started clipping. I ended up changing everything and completely lost track of where I began, which was with this gorgeous bodysuit by Cynful. The colours, texture, and fit were all stunning, and while it comes with graphic options, I loved it without them. There’s also a very mini mini skirt as part of the release, but I like to mix things up to get more versatility, so to speak. These pants by Erratic fit perfectly over the bodysuit, and the navy combination is superb. It creates such a business casual look, elevated with a sexy twist. You can easily dial it back into something more professional too, which is what I love most about Second Life fashion – the story you can create in your mind about where your look takes you, what it represents, and how it can evolve from the original concept.
I wanted something that gave off the vibe that I’d taken an item off and could put it back on if I needed to rush back to work. This much older over-the-shoulder sweater by COCO Designs did the trick. It’s not fitted to my avatar, but it still works, and depending on where an item sits on the body, sometimes older pieces can still achieve the look you’re going for. I love this sweater because it has a lightweight appearance, which pairs well with the lighter fabric of the pants. It’s perfect for those cool-but-not-cold days. The bare arms needed a little something, so the armbands by Sigma worked really well, you can hide and show left or right, or wear both if you wish. I also picked this gorgeous hair by Exile for the same reason – it’s the perfect length and style, with a slightly tousled look to the upper layers, as if I’d just pulled the sweater over my head. It’s not messy, but it has that ‘end of a long day’ look, which is perfect because sometimes those flyaways are well earned.
Other attention-grabbing items include the makeup on my face today. Firstly, AlaskaMetro is part of the Spoonful of Sugar Festival, and her items there support Doctors Without Borders. I’m wearing her stunning Matte Smoke Eyeshadow in a silvery blue shade, which I’ve been loving all week. On top of that, I used the blue liner from the Toujours set, along with a lipstick from the same collection. All beautiful products for a great cause. I’m also wearing the new Layla eyebrows by Nuve, currently available at Access. They come with a fantastic range of options, including inverted ombré looks for both brows or just one, as well as solid colours. These are incredible, and since I opted for a greyscale ombré look for my hair, matching brows is so much fun. I can also see them being perfect for those who want to add a bit of age to their look. They come in various ombré shades, so be sure to check them out!

Ar Ar Ar Ar
For some Second Life Residents, Physically Based Rendering (PBR) might seem new. It wasn’t on their radar, and now that it’s changed a lot of things in their virtual experience, they may feel resistant to it. Others, however, were aware that Linden Lab has been working on it for years, so it’s come as less of a surprise. Then there are the more seasoned gamers and creators who work both in and out of Second Life. To them, it may feel like Second Life has been lagging behind, and it’s only just catching up to other platforms. Wherever you fall in this spectrum, PBR is here now, and it’s not only changed the in-world experience but has also transformed how content is created. There’s more to PBR than just making shiny things look shinier. Yes, it’s true that managing the blend between PBR and older baked content can be a bit trickier now. However, many creators are working hard to bring new, exciting things to life in ways we’ve never seen before, and we need to give them space to experiment, just as we’ve done with other significant changes in the past. It’s not easy to switch from one method of creation to another, especially when it feels like it happens so quickly.
One major change is the importance of lighting – not just your own personal setup but how lighting works across different regions. Linden Lab has introduced a new Midday setting (not the legacy one), which is the best example of how lighting can be used, though it’s not always the most exciting option. Lighting now plays a much bigger role, so when you buy something, it may not look exactly like what you saw initially, as your lighting settings might be very different from the creator’s. Finding a balance between these settings is key.
When I was shooting this skirt, I loved how the lights in my studio interacted with the PBR textures, but also how the work just seems to shimmer on its own, which is not what we are used to, but is very realistic to the way this kind of skirt works. It was even more fun playing with EEP settings and watching the skirt change colours and reflections. I didn’t capture those shots, as it might have been confusing without context. What’s important to note is that DEMOS are now more crucial than ever. And if you head to a club in your best sequin mini, like this one by Fashionably Dead, you’ll have a mesmerising effect as the lights change – just like in real life. And honestly, that’s pretty cool!
This skirt also has an option to hide and show the solid mode base, and/or the wired see through option, the detail in this skirt texturing is incredible, and the ever so tiny panties also come with. I really liked the option of both types in one, so that you could go where the mood takes you. I liked it all so much that I made a little video, and a song as an homage to PBR that turned out so awesome thanks to the use of Suno ai. I just wrote the basic lyrics, requested a type of genre and edited the outcome to fit the video.
This beautiful necklace by Sigma is not PBR, but she has been releasing PBR content also, which is fantastic for metal work especially. I look forward to featuring more PBR work in future. I am also wearing the New-ish hair by Monso, that has bangs as optional, but they were just too chunky cute to not wear.
